Beautiful ornate buildings, welcoming locals and a rich history.

A fascinating mix of tree-filled, modern cities and desert with welcoming locals and well-situated hotels. Uzbekistan is a country I would recommend to anyone looking for something a bit different. Bukhara had a lovely atmosphere and which I enjoyed exploring in the evenings. The mosaic-tiled buildings, although there are a lot of them throughout the trip never fail to be awe-inspiring with the detail and care put into their construction. Other highlights included a visit to a desert fort after a delicious traditional lunch at a neighbouring yurt camp and the Savitsky Museum/Nukus Museum of Art in Nukus, which houses a large collection of ancient artifacts and soviet era avant-garde artwork. The food was also fantastic value.

Well done Sundowners!

Just back from the Five Golden Stans trip. Great group of travellers and Anya was a fantastic guide. The trip was exciting, challenging, invigorating, educational and culturally different. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about a part of the world which is unknown to Westerners. Be prepared to experience wonderful culture, great food and the friendliest and most hospitable people. Previously, The Persian Caravan was my favorite journey, but the Five Golden Stans may just beat it! Well done, tour operator!

It is my good fortune and privilege to travel with Dragoman, and to meet everyone in the silk road group, and to make friends with everyone in the group. This is a very special trip tp me, I learned a lot and completed many "first time": first time traveling with overland truck, first time setting up a camp tent, first time cooking on the road... From everyone in the group, I once again, learned what a fine individual should be. The trip is the journey not just destination. I wish I had known Dragoman earlier, but I will absolutely return to Dragoman in the near future.

I have never wild camped before and I found the entire trip experience fabulous. Everyone chipped in and I quickly became familiar with the truck and how incredible it is for camping with no other facilities!

The history, culture and religion as well as the architecture and art and the engagement with the people made this trip rich with experiences and learning. The always predictable standards of this tour company, which were surpassed here, helped make this a trip one to remember.

UZBEKISTAN UNCOVERED

A wonderful, rewarding holiday in a country that is just waking up to tourism but has so much to offer with lovely, friendly people and mind blowingly fabulous buildings and cities.  Be prepared to take the rough with the smooth - the hotels are basic but clean and (usually) the showers work.  Food is tasty if sometimes repetitive and costs are reasonable.
