The journey in her words
In our post-trip Q&A session with Tracey, she shared her experience traveling across Morocco’s breathtaking landscapes, from Todra Gorge to the sweeping Sahara Desert and Merzouga. Read on for her first-hand account and be inspired to book your own trip to Morocco.
Q: What made you choose a small group tour?
A: In my experience small group tours can be more personal and inclusive.
Q: The trip you booked was a guided tour. How did it feel to travel with a guide on this tour? Would you travel with a guide again? Why or why not?
A: I prefer guided tours as you learn more about the places visited. Our tour guide, (Aissam Saadaiu), was absolutely fabulous. He was a young local and the insight into his country and culture truly made our experience in Morocco all that much better...we gained the knowledge to embrace the country and the experiences. Yes, I would certainly travel with this guide again without a doubt.
Q: How is it to travel Morocco as a senior (60+ age range) traveler? Would you recommend Morocco to other senior travelers, and why?
A: If you are healthy and ready for something that allows you to embrace and understand a country like Morocco, yes 100% recommend Morocco to travellers over 60 years old.
Q: Were there any parts of the trip that surprised you in terms of quality or value?
A: I can be honest, the whole trip surprised us with the quality and value. Our accommodation was superb and the food choices included truly spectacular choices of local cuisine.
Q: Which destinations, cities, or highlights did you cover on your trip, and which stood out the most?
A: Many sights and highlights, but for me it would be camping in the Sahara, Merzouga and Todra Gourges, where we walked through village gardens and up to great heights for spectacular views.
Q: What was a memorable moment or story from your journey that you’d like to highlight?
A: For me the most memorable highlight was the camel ride in the beautiful Sahara, enjoying the spectacular sunset and night skies. Also the camp with traditional food and singing and music...the sunrise in the Sahara is also a sight that will stay in my memories forever.
Q: What were your favorite activities or excursions, and why?
A: No favourites here, I enjoyed every moment, the villages, the people and culture of each area.
Q: Did you try any local food or cultural experiences that you would recommend?
A: We ate all the local foods. The best experience was in a village supported women's establishment teaching women of the area traditional skills, Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou.
Q: Did you have any unique interactions with locals, guides, or fellow travelers that made your trip special?
A: Yes, plenty of interaction with locals learning about their particular area or cultural diversity. Our fellow travellers have become friends and we still keep in touch.
Q: Did this trip change your perspective on the destination, travel, or life in any way?
A: Morocco was much more than I expected in regards to how I felt about the country and culture after the experience.
Q: What was the biggest surprise you encountered during your trip to Morocco?
A: Probably the comfort and standard of our accommodation.
Q: Looking back, what was the best part of your entire journey?
A: Definitely the Sahara Desert experience was my highlight.
Q: If you could relive one day of your trip, which day would it be and why?
A: Not really, everyday I would relive.
Q: What would you say to someone considering this tour or destination?
A: GO!! Make the trip, get to see and understand Morocco and all it holds, it's a destination like no other.
