When to go to Holland

Temperatures in Holland can get pretty low between the months of November and March, and the country also sees snowfall between December and February. This is, however, the best time to enjoy luminaries and Christmas markets. Spring is the peak season, and tulip season starts from the end of March and lasts until the middle of May. The warm summer months between June and August see some amazing events and festivals. Learn more.

How long to stay in Holland

You might want to plan a Holland itinerary lasting at least one week to soak up the highlights, although you can experience Amsterdam during a three-day break. Seven days will allow you to get out of the capital and discover destinations like Almere and Texel. If you have between ten days and two weeks to spare, you can even make Belgium or other destinations in Central Europe part of your travel plans.

Must-visit destinations in Holland

A visit to Holland requires a stop in Amsterdam. Discover the capital by bicycle, like most Dutch do, and visit Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum with quaint windmills and distinctive, green-colored houses made of wood. Browse through the collection of the Van Gogh Museum, home to some of the greatest masterpieces of the post-impressionist artist. If you want to spend some more time in nature, make sure to visit De Hoge Veluwe National Park, a wonderland spread out over 13,800 acres, or head out to explore the quaint hamlets along Lake Ijssel. Then soak up the sights and sounds of Leiden, a city replete with windmills, canals and bridges. Learn more.
