Reviews of our Malta Self-Guided Tours
Self-guided travelers rate their independent journeys through Malta.
There was a good balance of included activities and free time. The optional activities were expensive.
Insight is steadily getting worse. Used to think it was more "high end". Sliema in Malta is like staying in New Jersey when they say New York City. My balcony "waterfront view" was a side street. I'm sure some rooms might have a harbor view, mine did not. Get a tour that puts you in Valetta itself.
Althea was a great guide. She made sure to tell us if any festas or other things were happening close by that were in the evening, which made for an even better experience. I loved all the historical sites. Malta and Gozo are easy to travel through. This trip packs a lot in. I liked the hotels. Transportation was comfortable. It's definitely worth an extra day before or after in Valletta, but there is time to see the museums there and do shopping within the tour.
JohnPaul in Gozo & Malta was very organised & shared his vast knowledge with the group. He used WhatsApp to ensure we knew what was happening each day. In Malta, some of the days could've been made shorter when it was very hot & a few tour members weren't well. Eg: wd could have missed the Presidential garden. In Sicily we had a fantastic experience with Danielle. Again he was well organised, hsed WhatsApp to keep us informed & shared his knowledge together wiith insider tips. He always gave us a preview to towns in the bus & escorted us to ensure we had an initial understanding of the towns & what we could do. He made extra effort to look after us eg: when I was sick with a sinus infection, he organised a bowl of vegetable soup for me instead of the set menu & when my friend was having difficulty with the Mt Etna hike because the guide was too fast on the uphill hike & didn't allow a stop, Dabiele escorted him at a slower pace so he could continue the experience.
As planned it would have been great....and truly easy paced. Due to elections, days got switched and it wasn't easy pace anymore
The tour was very easy paced with highlighted sites - for a first time visit it covered the main sights/ history for those who don’t want to do their own research & with sufficient free time for personal exploration, there was a balance for when the group has people who walk at a much slower pace The hotel was great, location views amenities - roof top bar in the evenings was a hit with us! The tour leader was knowledgeable as were the daily local guides ( a bit of repetition of information/ history) The optional tours were expensive & as Malta is a tourist destination there are a lot of alternatives to the same sites so look around
