Venture deep into the untamed heart of Papua New Guinea on our "Papua New Guinea Tribal Tour," a journey designed for both young adults and seniors seeking authentic cultural encounters. Over six days, you’ll stay in eco lodges nestled within ancestral villages, engaging directly with ancient tribes such as the Huli Wigman, Skeleton tribes, and Asaro Mudmen.
This tour offers a rare opportunity to step back in time: witness mesmerizing traditional dances, observe ancient customs, and immerse yourself in the daily rhythms of indigenous life. day 1 - Port Moresby – Mount Hagen
Welcome to Papua New Guinea.
Upon arrival in Port Moresby, you will be met by our guide, who will take you for breakfast before catching your flight to Mount Hagen.
After reaching Mount Hagen, the hotel shuttle will pick us from the airport and we will head to a beautiful lodge at the foot of Mount Hagen (3800m) – the 3rd highest peak of Papua New Guinea and an extinct volcano. If time allows, we take a drive to look for the rare bird of paradise, a symbolic bird in Papua New Guinea featured on the country’s flag.
day 2 - Mount Hagen – Chimbu by Road
After an early breakfast, we will ride to Chimbu. We will stop by a supermarket to pickup some drinks and snacks before we venture further into the less visited part of the country. The road is on flat land with gardens of coffee and tea plantations along the way with patches of small hamlets all dotted along the road. Enjoy the view as you drive to Mindima Village.
Upon arriving in Mindima Village, we will check in and have lunch and then head straight out to watch The Dust Shakers’ perform a scared ritual of widows ending their season of mourning.
As the evening sets in, we will join the village's insect hunters as they go hunting and gathering insect for their evening meals.
Then, we will return to the lodge and enjoy a hot meal before heading to bed.
day 3 - Skeleton Tribe Village – Asaro Mudmen Village
Early after breakfast, we will pack our bags and get ready to leave the village. But before we leave, we will head out to see Skeleton tribes, known for their unique culture and traditions, including he practice of painting their bodies with skeleton bones made of black and white clay.
We will listen to their stories in their mystical cave through enactment, songs and dance and even get the opportunity to take pictures and paint our faces. Then, we will return to the village for a farewell event where the locals will entertain us with songs and dances. Make sure to notice their semi traditional musical instruments of bamboo, Kundu drums and two stringed guitars.
After lunch, we will leave Mindima Village and head to Asaro Mudmen Village.
day 4 - Asaro Mudmen Village
After an early breakfast, we will take a morning walk to Mount Gurupoka and enjoy the ceremony and ghost walk of the Asaro Mudmen. We will visit the old sacrificial cave and the cross on top of the holy mountain of Gurupoka, all the while enjoying a beautiful panoramic view of the entire Asaro Valley.
We will return back to the village for lunch. Here, we will watch the traditional making of the Asaro Mudmen Masks, the victory dance of the Mudmen called "Moko Moko", and performance from the Gemesave women dancers. At night, we will have our dinner and head back to the lodge for overnight stay.
day 5 - Goroka – Port Moresby
After breakfast, we bid farewell to our hosts and travel to Goroka town, where we catch our flight back to Port Moresby. Then, our hotel shuttle will pick us up at the airport and transfer us to our hotel. In the afternoon, we will take a city tour of the National Museum and Art Gallery, the national Parliament. The rest of the day is at leisure. After exploring around, we will head back to your hotel in downtown Port Moresby for the night.
day 6 - Port Moresby departure
Today is your last day in Port Moresby. After breakfast, depending on your flight departure, you will board your hotel shuttle to the airport and check in for your flight. We hope you had a good trip!
