Outside the hiking community, few know about the Garfagnana region in northern Tuscany. It’s a hiker’s dream with dramatic mountain trails, wild national parks and spectacular views – a stark contrast to the vineyards and rolling hills of the south. Join an expert tour leader to explore the most beautiful trails in the area and return each evening to our stone farmhouse on the lower slopes of the Apennines. Traditional Italian hospitality and good food await, plus there’s a free day to explore nearby Lucca, the Cinque Terre, Florence or Pisa.
Please note: Most departures for this trip are graded Activity Level 3 (Moderate); however, if you’re looking to push yourself, join one of our Activity Level 5 (Challenging) departures to tackle more difficult treks and spend a night in a mountain refuge. Experience the ancient pilgrimage trails of Sicily's Camino. Travel by foot along the 'regie trazzere' or ancient road from Palermo and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the north to Agrigento on the southern Mediterranean coast to discover the rugged beauty of inland Sicily with its archaeological treasures and friendly locals who have been welcoming pilgrims for centuries. The Magna Via Francigena was officially re-opened in 2017 in celebration of its rich historical legacy as a trade route connecting Africa and the Middle East to Europe. It runs through ancient landscapes to extraordinary villages clinging to the cliffs and some suprisingly green hills among lakes and rolling mountains. However what is striking about the Magna Via Francigena is the influence of those who occupied the land over the years, from the Greeks and Romans, to the people of Byzantium and the Moors, and the legacies they left behind in the form of mozaics and other ancient relics, traditions and culinary influences. On arrival in Agrigento, dip your toes into the sea, receive your Testamonium at the cathedral and revel in the satisfaction of having walked across Sicily.
Join our expert mountain leaders and a small group of like-minded adventurers to hike the most scenic trails in the Dolomites. Based at a family-run hotel in the lovely village of Campitello, we walk among jagged limestone peaks and through lush valleys, before returning home for a warm welcome and an Italian feast. With excellent chairlift, cable car, and bus links, we can access a huge variety of routes, allowing us to offer two difficulty levels on each walking day: Activity Level 3 (Moderate) and 5 (Challenging). Our expert tour leaders may alter the itinerary based on weather conditions and group ability to ensure everyone’s enjoyment.

Each day brings a new landscape, from open savannas to olive groves and lush forests. Highlights include a walk to Punta Palascia, Italy’s easternmost point, and the chance to explore Lecce’s stunning baroque architecture.

Buongiorno! Meet your private guide and get ready for a white day with snowshoes full of fun. You will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the Five Towers.
The 5 Torri landscapes are without doubt one of the symbols of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Thanks to their peculiar shape, they are instantly recognizable from any other peak or valley in the area and this makes them unique. The area extends next to the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, which preserves its unspoilt nature and allows the preservation of incredibly rich biodiversity.
The snowshoes — "Ciaspe", as they are called in the dolomites — make it possible to follow the paths leading to high-altitude refuges. Originally the snowshoe was a “working tool” of farmers and hunters. Today, snowshoeing is a popular winter sport, allowing anyone who wants to roam through forests and high-altitude meadows in winter to move without too much effort and without sinking into the snow.
There is the silence of the snow-covered slopes all around, a magical, secluded atmosphere where you only feel peace and a deep closeness to nature. With snowshoes, you can explore the beauty of the mountains in winter with peace of mind. Snowshoeing is rewarding and stimulating, the relationship between man and nature is simple and at the same time extraordinary.
In the afternoon, there will be a mini lunch, included with Trentino Specials from your guide. However we suggest you buy a slice of the famous Apfelstrudel that can be found around local bakeries. Also, do not forget a provision of water.

day 4 - Snowshoes walking tour: Castle of Andraz
Today, at around 9:00 am your private guide will pick you up from your hotel for another amazing walking tour with snowshoes. The highlight of today's tour is the Valley of Castle of Andraz.
Andraz Castle stands just below the Falzarego Pass, in Livinallongo del Col di Lana, in a strategic position to control the communication routes that, already in the Middle Ages, connected the territories of Belluno, and then those of the Serenissima, with the areas north of Caprile, belonging to the Bishop of Bressanone.
In communication with other fortresses, Andraz Castle was part of an organized system of surveillance of traffic between Agordino and Val Pusteria. Today it is home to the Andraz Museum. The Andraz Castle was built, using local stone, on a gigantic rocky spur that in the Ice Age had detached from the Dolomite Group of Settsass: these very special characteristics give the fortress an extraordinary integration with the surrounding natural environment and increase its charm.
