day 1 - Arrive in Kochi

Arrive by flight at Kochi. The serene Kochi (a.k.a. Cochin) has been drawing traders and explorers to its shores for over 600 years. Nowhere else in India can you find such an intriguing mix of giant fishing nets from China, a 400-year-old synagogue, ancient mosques, Portuguese houses and the crumbling remains of the British Raj. The result is an unusual blend of medieval Netherlands, Portugal, and an English village grafted onto the tropical Malabar Coast.

The private car will pick you up from the Kochi airport and transfer you to your hotel. Evening at your leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

day 2 - Explore the Kochi melting pot

After breakfast head out for local sightseeing tour of Kochi. Visit famous attractions such as Fort Kochi, St Francis Church with Marine Drive – a perfect local hangout, and Willingdon, a man-made island.

Then visit the Old Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Constructed in 1567, it is one of seven synagogues of the Malabar Yehudan or Yehudan Mappila people, the Cochin Jewish community. Then head to Mattancherry Palace, a Portuguese palace that features murals depicting portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. Afterwards visit Cochin spice market & see the Chinese fishing nets.

day 3 - Travel to Munnar

After breakfast check-out from your hotel and head straight to Munnar. The rolling hills around Munnar, South India's largest tea-growing region, are carpeted in emerald-green tea plantations, contoured, clipped and sculpted like ornamental hedges.

Reach Munnar after a five hours’ drive, and check in at your hotel. In the evening head out to see a Kalaripayattu show. Kalaripayattu is an ancient Indian martial art that originated in Kerala.

day 4 - Munnar's tea heritage

Embark on a jeep tour to the villages & tea plantations. Munnar is synonymous with tea plantation as it one of the highest tea growing regions in the world. A trip to the town will be incomplete without visiting a tea estate.

Afterwards visit Munnar Tea Museum. The institute preserves the history on the genesis and the growth of tea plantations in Kerala's mountain region of the Western Ghats. Later head out for a plantation walk touring. Reach your hotel by the evening.

day 5 - Reach Periyar

After breakfast check-out from the hotel and head towards Periyar. The Periyar forests of Thekkady are one of the finest wildlife reserves in India. To most familiar with the area, the very word Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations. Spread across the entire district are picturesque plantations and hill towns that hold great opportunities for treks and mountain walks.

Reach Periyar by the afternoon and check in at the hotel on arrival. Evening at your leisure.

day 6 - Explore the wilds of Periyar

Early in the morning, set out for a half-day guided jungle walking tour and bamboo rafting at Periyar National Park. The wildlife sanctuary is famous for its tiger and elephant reserves. There are high chances of spotting elephant herds in the jungle while you are hiking. This serene tour will take close to six hours.

Return to your hotel before heading out for a Kathakali show, a popular classical Indian dance form, in the evening.

day 7 - Travel to Kollam

Leave for Kollam after breakfast. The southern approach to Kerala’s backwaters is surrounded by the calm waterways of Ashtamudi Lake, fringed with coconut palms, cashew plantations and traditional villages.

Reach Kollam by the afternoon and check in at the hotel before an evening of leisure.

day 8 - The coastline of Kollam

Today, visit Varkala Beach, a place where the cliff of Kerala meet the seacoast. There are numerous waterspouts and spas on the sides of these cliffs, and the beach is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

In the afternoon return to Kollam and enjoy a boat ride across the backwaters and mangroves of Paravur Lake. Evening at your leisure.

day 9 - Alleppey: the Venice of the East

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and drive to Alleppey (Alappuzha), known as the Venice of the East for its vast mesmerizing backwaters.
