This was our second trip with Explore and we had an amazing time. We usually travel independently but took the gamble on a group tour to S America and were not disappointed. The full-on itinerary suited us as we discovered so much more of Peru than would have been possible if we had gone on our own. We enjoyed the mix of personalities in the group and found both the group and our tour leader (Hector) extremely friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. Hector went above and beyond to ensure individual requirements were catered for and made a good trip an exceptional trip! The accommodation overall was good and the highlights for us were the night at the B&B on Taquile Island and our second day at Machu Picchu! We stayed 3 nights in Barranco in Lima before the trip which we would recommend.
Arturo was a fantastic leader and guide. Knowledgable, helpful, caring, experienced and amusing. This was my 11th Explore holiday and Arturo is up there with the best guides. The porters and cooks are heroes - we were very happy to tip them generously. The itinerary was perfect, though no one should underestimate the challenge of around ten hours walking on day three. Cusco hotel staff were fine but the layout around a central atrium means the rooms are very noisy. The hotel near Machu Picchu was lovely but the staff were rude, unhelpful and disinterested. Overall I’d fully recommend this trip - but be sure to get into shape beforehand and consider your kit carefully.
