Wonderful trip with our guide Lisa. The itinerary was good, but many long bus rides-which is necessary to cover mainland Greece and get in as much as we did in 7 full days. Would have loved to have an overnight stay in Nafplio. Enjoyed staying in hotels within walking distance to the towns-made it really easy to just go during free times. The dinner buffets at the hotels were not my favorite but understand why since a couple nights we were getting into the hotels late due to traveling. Kalabaka and Meteora were a highlight for me. The Olive Farm and Cooking night were wonderful. Both the Santorini and Mykonos stays were wonderful. The optional catamaran excursion on Santorini was great.
I chose this trip because of the 6 nights in Tuscany - Montecatini Terme. Cinque Terre, Lucca, Siena and San Gimignano were highlights of this tour. The food for the special dinners was amazing. Rosella and Massimo kept things on track. Organizing and coordinating tickets, transportation (2 ferries, train and bus) and firsthand knowledge of the areas visited was well exhibited by Rosella. The specialty tour guides were knowledgeable and added extra flair to the excursions. Enjoyed the trip immensely.

Your holiday starts in Porto, where shuttered townhouses tumble downhill to colourful rabelo sailing boats cruising the Douro River and passing world-famous wine cellars. From here, you'll beach and bay hop south to your luxury beachfront hotel in Furadouro, before heading via the Aveiro Lagoon, home to pink flamingo and colourful birdlife, to Aveiro for two nights in a waterside mansion. Known as 'Portugal's Venice', this is where colourful moliceiro boats cruise along canals beneath tall palm trees, while alleyways are filled with tempting restaurants. Your final cycling stretch takes you back to the ocean to high sand dunes, meandering through pine and acacia forest, to Praia de Mira.

The scenery also varies hugely, from the dramatic Bosphorous strait in Istanbul, to the beautiful Mediterranean coastline, forested hills and mountains further inland and special highlights like the surreal landscapes of Pamukkale and Cappadocia.
This comprehensive 19 day tour takes all this in and more. Starting and finishing in Istanbul, the tour learns about modern history at the war memorials and ANZAC cemeteries at Gallipoli before developing deeper into the past with tours of some of the region's most important historic sites at Troy, Ephesus, Hieropolis, Aphrodisias, Aspendos and Side. After a briefing and welcome dinner in the revitalized old-world elegance of Sofia, our riding begins in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, and we soon delve into a little-known part of Europe along the Vit River, stretching our legs with some challenging ascents. Reaching Chiflik, relax in the thermal baths for which Bulgaria is famous. The next day, follow a Roman road across Beklemeto Pass, Bulgaria’s highest, and take in the view before cruising down through forested countryside into Koprivshtitsa, a living monument to 19th century Bulgaria. After a night in this ambience, pedal among remnants of ancient Thrace, visiting millenia-old sacred sites and a modern winery, before reaching Plovdiv, where we spend the evening in its immaculate town centre of preserved theatres, mosques, and public baths. We then enter the Rhopode Mountains of Bulgaria’s remote southern frontier. Exploring monasteries and fortified villages, transition to the natural beauty of the marble Trigrad Gorge and the underground waterfall nearby before arriving at a welcoming local hotel. Awaking in this peaceful setting, we continue deeper into the wilderness among yet more stunning rock formations, ascending a forested route to Dospat and our lakefront hotel. The final day of cycling takes us northward to Velingrad, Bulgaria’s spa capital, where we can once more allow the waters to rejuvenate our legs after the journey and share a final night dinner. The following morning, we will transfer back to Sofia in time for onward journeys or further exploration of this fascinating city.
