Kilimanjaro - Rongai Route - November 2025
The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. Though gaining popularity amongst climbers, Rongai has low traffic. It is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the crowded Marangu route, for those who would like a more remote hike, and for those who are climbing during the rainy season (the North side receives less precipitation).
The Rongai route is one of the easiest route up to Kilimanjaro summit and it joins the Marangu route at Kibo hut. The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, and seven days are recommended. We have designed the trip for 7 days as that will allow for proper acclimatization on the mountain.
Wildlife can be seen on the lower slopes such as buffalo's, Elephants, Baboons and monkeys together with different species of birds.
Although the scenery is not as varied as the western routes, the Rongai route makes up for this by passing through true wilderness areas for days before joining the Marangu route at Kibo camp. On the way down this route goes together with the Marangu route.
The Rongai route as such is a moderately difficult route and relatively easier than other routes up Kilimanjaro. It is therefore highly recommended, especially for those with less backpacking experience, as the probability of reaching the summit will be higher.

Our 8-day safari was an unforgettable experience! We were mesmerized by the wildlife of Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti. The sight of flocks of pink flamingos, lions in the trees, and the Great Migration was truly unique.

Selous Game Reserve is pronounced Selooo. It is the largest protected wildlife area in Africa with 45,000 Square Kilometers of wilderness. It is bigger than the size of Switzerland, bigger than the size of South Africa’s Kruger National Park and twice the size of the famous Serengeti National Park. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. It is named after the Englishman Frederick Courtenay Selous (1851-1917) who used to hunt and explore in the area during the British colonial era in Tanzania.
Selous hosts the largest population of elephants, lions, leopards, sable antelope, African wild dogs, buffalos and hippos. The park is also home toTanzania’s largest river, the hypnotic Rufiji River bisecting the reserve and home to hippos, crocodiles and various water-associated birds. The river forms a complex network of channels, lakes and swamps that create one of the most outstanding ecological wildlife systems in East Africa.
Well-watered, Selous Game Reserve is also home to the ferocious yet attractive tiger fish and vandu catfish, the latter equipped with a primitive set of lungs which allows it to migrate from one landlocked pool to another. The Selous is also rich in, open woodland, grassy plains, mountains and forests.

Overall, great experience. Brian has been extremely helpful in tailoring the itinerary for the safari and has assisted us all along the process.
Our guide, Henry, was always on time and truly did his best to show us all the possible animals within the visited parks. We've had nice lunches (with juice and wine) during the 7 days of Safari and the car was always sparkling clean in the morning when our guide was picking us up :)
Our safari was followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar : Brian has arranged a pick-up at the airport for us. The hotel (Z hotel in Nungwi) was also great and the honeymoon package made our holiday unforgettable.
The safari is a magical experience everyone should have in a lifetime.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the top things to do while visiting Africa. It offers mesmerizing experiences, and is a must-do for all adventure travelers. That said, choosing from the number of routes available can be a huge task. The Lemosho route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west. Rather than simply intersecting Shira Plateau (like Machame), Lemosho crosses it from Shira Ridge to Shira 2 Camp, in a pleasant hike. Climbers encounter low traffic until the route joins the Machame route. Afterwards, Lemosho follows the same route through Lava Tower, Barranco and Barafu, known as the southern circuit. The Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate.
