Overall, the trip was fantastic. Lodging and food were great. Only nit I'd throw out is the written description of the route was pretty weak. Understand that you can use the GPS app and that would locate you precisely, but I really don't want to be in these beautiful areas with my phone pasted to my hand. Goal is sort of to unplug. Paper map got us thru, and it wasn't a big deal, by any means, but thought it was unusual that the written aspect was so weak. Would be very easy to tighten it up a bit. That being said, it does make for a more interesting walk when you're trying to route find at times, in an absolutely beautiful area, and we always got there!
This was a great walk with varied terrain. The longer days were tough at times so be prepared with good shoes and water. We loved walking through beautiful countryside, villages and forests. The accommodation was good and the food excellent. We only briefly saw one other walking group during our trip and it was wonderful to have the paths to ourselves.
Overall our trip was wonderful, the walk was great and we enjoyed it very much. We started at 9am each day and finished by 5pm, we took an hour to have a picnic lunch each day. The food was to die for at each place. A couple of things to consider if you are an older walker. 1. If you have the time, leave a day between walks. There is so much to see in each town and we didn't have time each day to see (especially Domme, which is beautiful, take a extra day) 2. Follow the instructions exactly (the rock wall with two letter boxes is not the turn, further along is a rock wall with one letter box). 3. Accommodation is on the 2nd floor with no lift, keep your luggage light. Thoroughly recommend this trip.
This tour was an amble through fields of corn, groves of chestnuts, forests of oak and honey coloured stone villages huddled around their ancient churches. Chateaux and castles clung to hillsides while the Dordogne River threaded much of it with silver. With a baguette, the regions famed foie gras or duck rillette and the last of summers sweet strawberries I picnicked on mossy forest floors or wayside stone benches. I passed not a soul except for the occasional shy farmer. Hearty breakfasts, delicious dinners in fine restaurants and comfortable rooms in places of character made this a trip that had everything - the historic, the picturesque, the bucolic and the gourmet and all experienced with a walkers time to wonder.
This tour agency have a fantastic product, if our experience is anything to go by. Everything was top notch, from preparatory information to comprehensive track notes. The hotels where more than satisfactory and the food consistently top notch. The Dordogne is a stunning region and the balance between walking, sightseeing and relaxation was spot on. Highly recommended.
The trip was well planned out and so very relaxing and enjoyable. The hotels and especially the food were awesome. Would absolutely take another trip like this.
