Needed longer in London but that was me! All other aspects were great. Hotels, service, food. Sometimes a little rushed in towns but all in all great experience. Gave us a flavour of the areas. Pretty fast paced! The last hotel was a bit far especially at 4:30 am drive to airport. Also, my flight back had a long layover in Chicago.
Our tour was absolutely fantastic and our tour manager, Gail, was great with our entire group of 25 from WPSU Public Television in Pennsylvania. Most of the accommodations were fabulous and the local tour guides were also excellent. Larry, Lyndon, and Mark were all area experts that really know their history. I especially loved touring the moors with Mark and learning about the history of standing stones and lay lines. My only suggestion would be staying 3 days at each location instead of just two, especially at Bovey Castle, which was really lovely but we didn't have time to explore the grounds or do any of the excursions they offer. All in all it was a wonderful trip!
Tour highlights included our stay at Bovey Castle; the time spent at Chavenage and the meals provided. A stop which could have been eliminated was to Castle Combe; too long for the time spent walking back-and-forth to the site for the 10 minutes or so that we were allowed there.
All accommodations were excellent! The busses are no longer allowed to enter the village of Castle Combe which made it necessary to walk a steep hill . This was difficult for some of the people for what ended up being a 10 minute visit of the village.
If you love history and the country side this is the trip for you. I loved seeing the castle where Poldark is filmed and other places where movies were filmed. The country side reminds me so much of the Azores where my ancestors are from, it brought back a lot of memories
Saw a lot of but also spent too much time on the coach. Found ourselves close to places like Stratford on Avon but instead traveled past without visiting. Enjoyed all accommodations except the Queens Hotel( last stop). Room was stifling( even after asking for help), bathroom cramped, food service below par. Bovey Castle and Carlyon excellent.
