In the 1920s and 1930s, Shanghai was one of the most prosperous and cosmopolitan cities of East Asia, a centre of business and pleasure offering a vibrant lifestyle. On this day tour, experience the 1920’s wealthy lifestyle with your private local guide.
These decades saw the nobility of the Qing dynasty, other high-class citizens and rich, up-starters living a truly luxurious lifestyle in Shanghai. Food was always the most important part of Chinese society, and for the wealthy in the 1920s, the day always started with a delicate yam-cha breakfast, a compulsory activity for the rich. They also frequented fancy restaurants or boutique tea-houses, often with their pets (birds or crickets), and would choose their favourite dim-sum to enjoy with precious Chinese tea.
Today, you will be picked up in your hotel lobby at 7:30 am and taken to the restaurant --- Sense 8. The decoration and the food immerse you in elegant and exclusive scenes of times past— the decor of the restaurant mirrors the décor of the homes of members of the Qing Dynasty. Enjoy a range of old-school dim sum dishes like 20’s Shanghai that you can't find it anywhere else.
After breakfast, you will visit the Site-Memorial of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The well-protected historical architecture “shikumen”. The founder of the Communist Party started from here.
The bird market is the entertainment spot of old. In the market, people sell insects, bird, plants and fish. Here, different people with the same hobby. They all come here to pick their pets and exchange experiences!
The final stop is Yuyuan Bazaar, which is the old Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture market. There are various souvenir shops and restaurants. Here you can search for some small gifts for your family or friends or try some famous snacks if you're interested. Then, you will join a tea ceremony.

An Afternoon in Yu Garden & Shanghai French Concession
Explore oases of greenery and architectural beauty located in chaotic Shanghai during this seven-hour, guided tour. Your tour guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel according to the starting time and drive you to Yu Garden, an enchanting sight that date back to the Ming dynasty.
Yu Garden, also known as Yuyuan Garden, is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape gardening and includes halls, springs and other buildings dating back to the Ming dynasty. If time allows, we will visit an antiques market after that.
Next, attend a traditional Chinese tea ceremony which includes tasting three different kinds of tea and then make your way to Shanghai French Concession, an area characterized by beautiful, tree-lined streets and weathered European architecture. Pass by the legendary mobster Big Eared Du’s house as well as Sun Yat-sen’s residence among other landmarks.
Dine in a famous restaurant and taste the best Beijing duck in the town before heading back to your accommodation.

You will be picked up at 4 p.m. in your hotel lobby and head to Yu Garden. The garden covers a significant space and includes many pavilions, plants, rockery and other buildings of interest that will take you back to the time of the Ming Dynasty.
Then, enjoy a delicious local dinner while watching a Chinese face-changing show. For dinner, there are 2 options: hot pot or Sichuan cuisine. The performance style is known for its unique face changing act. You will see the actor change their facial makeup in seconds to show the different emotions of the character.
After dinner, try a Chuan-style ear cleaning and massage, a unique custom in the area. The technician will clean your ear and use special techniques to promote your health and well-being!
