When sharing a twin room space is needed between the beds.
A varied trip through 4 countries, of which 2 were new to me. A good combination of history, culture and towns to see. Two optional boat trips were taken by the entire group, and given much lack of an alternative, should really be part of the official trip. Dusan, the tour leader was enthusiastic and helpfull throughout. Highlights for me were the cities of Sarajevo, Mostar and Dubrovnik. It should be noted that in June, the weather was very hot, and should be taken into consideration.
The trip was enjoyable overall, but I felt that too much time was spent in Mokra Gora, which did not add much value to the itinerary. We also could have skipped Počitelj, as it was not particularly memorable compared to other destinations on the tour. The tour guide, Anna, would benefit from additional training. She appeared to have limited experience and was unable to provide much insight or detailed information about the countries we visited, which detracted from the from the overall experience. The final trip information was incorrect, which resulted in me having to make an unnecessary return trip into Kotor on the first day as the accommodation given was wrong. The description of the accommodation in Mokra Gora was also inaccurate and did not match what was said in the trip notes. Greater attention to detail and more accurate communication would have significantly improved the overall experience.
The itinerary was excellent starting and ending on the "big name" places of Kotor and Dubrovnik that everyone knows about, but in between we saw many facets of the Balkans and experienced wonderful scenery at almost every turn and learned a bit about the history of the area too. Most of us were however unaware that we spent over half the trip at 1000m+ in the mountains of Montenegro and Serbia and weren't quite as prepared as we might have been so a little more advice on that (especially for shoulder season itineraries) would have been of benefit. I'd also definitely recommend you spend a couple more days in Dubrovnik if you have the time as the walking tour was great but more time to properly explore is needed. Danielija our tour leader was excellent, thoughtul, helpful and great company. Her suggestions for dinner restaurants were always spot on and the guides she found for us were all first rate.
The accommodation was mixed in terms of comfort, breakfast and location. The itinerary was varied and interesting, comprising a blend of culture, nature and history, with beautiful scenery along the route.. Pity the transport was a bit cramped. The tour leader, Danijela, was exceptional, always smiling, knowledgeable and ready to help with anything. I would recommend this trip even if it only covers snippets of each country.
A good insight into the Balkans. A nice mixture of cities and mountains and history.
