The tour was very well arranged. Conrad explained beforehand what route we would be following, the nature and conditions of the various camps, the time we would take on each leg and what we could expect to see, particularly as regards terrain and flora.
While some of the roads were rough, the tour proceeded smoothly and any difficulties were quickly solved owing to the experience and skill of the two leaders. The vehicle was sturdy and as comfortable as could be expected, very suitable for its purpose.
Conrad displayed a wide knowledge both of plants and of the countryside, and his comments considerably enhanced our enjoyment of what we saw. He has a real love for his area of southern Africa, and a desire to preserve any species which could be under threat. He is a kind, considerate and entertaining host, and we appreciated his tact in withdrawing when we wanted to rest.
The meals were of excellent quality and there was always enough and to spare. Floors was in charge of the food, his tasty and varied dishes showing his skill as a cook. He did as much preparation beforehand as possible and so the meals were served timeously and efficiently. We were initiated into the delights of some local recipes, and we came to appreciate the resourcefulness of people living away from urban culinary outlets.
After being safely returned to Port Nolloth, we expressed our heartfelt thanks to Conrad and Floors for a memorable, interesting and unique experience. We recommend their tour highly, and we count it a privilege to have come to know them both."

I started my business in 2005, after good consideration of the Tourist Influx in my town Port Nolloth and the Richtersveld.
In 2008 I was selected National Best Tourist Guide in the Welcome Awards at Indaba by SA Tourism. I also was selected in 2009 and 2010 Provincial Finalist for the ETEYA award for my province. In 2014 I was selected Tourism Ambassador for the Northern Cape at the Tourism Indaba held in Durban. My clients are from all over the world. Few countries to mention Germany, the UK, Netherlands, USA, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, Canada, etc.
I was working previously in the Diamond mining Industry and Fish Companies and also serve in the Military as a Medic. I visited London WTM, ITB in Berlin, Philippines and Turkey a few times and attended convention hosted by the World Federation for Tourist Guides.
Aukwatowa Tours will tailor make tours & transfers at extremely competitive rates.
Allow us to let you savour the true Africa and experience something that will stay with you forever. You will be the envy of others when you tell them of your experience.
We are based in Port Nolloth, and normally start and end our Tours here, but through arrangements you can be picked up at the airport in Upington or Cape Town.
We normally structure our tours to include as much as possible, of a variety of things. On the way to the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park (a World Heritage site) we like to show our visitors some rare plants, landscapes, rock engravings etc. These amazing places are not necessarily inside the Park. On a “normal” trip, we only reach the Park by the end of the first day.
The Richtersveld consists of the Sandveld on the coast, which is mostly inaccessible ( restricted mining area), then you have the wetlands at the Orange river mouth, the scenic areas along the Orange river, Conservancy areas at Kuboes, Eksteenfontein and Rooiberg, the National Park, and areas outside these formal conservancy areas. It needs to be mentioned that some of the Areas outside the conservancy and Park, are no less spectacular than the parts inside these areas.
Our more popular tours are between 2 and 8 days. Before these trips we establish our client’s personal interests, and put something together that suits them. We start planning a tour with two people, and keep our group sizes to not more than eight people.
On our tours, we supply everything, from the vehicle , equipment, putting up camp where necessary, preparing meals, cleaning up, changing flat tyres (if necessary), drinking water and accommodation before and after the Tour (in Port Nolloth).
In the National Park, we would not be able to cover much of it, as travelling in the Park is generally slow. It is important to make stops, and to do short hikes, to see and appreciate more of the plants, and landscapes, thus we need to do 3 to 6 days in order to cover all.
