About Mia

Mia is a freelance travel writer with a passion for adventure, wildlife, and water (not necessarily in that order). She has traveled the globe to follow her dreams, fight for the environment, and swim in some of the world’s most beautiful places. When she isn't travelling around the world, she coaches swimming and teaches English to foreign language students.

How did you get into travel

In 2000, I bought a campervan and travelled through Europe for a year. I write a travel diary along the way and the rest is history! When I returned to South Africa, I did a degree in Journalism and have been travel writing ever since!

Mia's unique travel experience

I was lucky enough to get onto a Whaleshark Research program in the Maldives and spend two weeks tracking and studying these magnificent creatures. I stayed on a local island, which was a fantastic experience and really got to know the local people.
