About Brienna
Fed up with her 9-to-5 job in New York, Brienna Carter quit her job and bought a one-way ticket to Greece. Two years of solo backpacking through Europe and Asia eventually led her to settle in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she now shares her travel experiences through her writing. Brienna writes destination guides for Bookmundi and publishes travel pieces on her blog.
While Brienna loves the energy of big cities, her heart belongs to off-the-beaten-path destinations. She loves the idea of experiencing new culture, strolling aimlessly through foreign streets, eating meals at hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and people-watching on sunny afternoons.
How did you get into travel
I first started travel writing to update friends and family back home on my whereabouts. Once I saw how my writing inspired people back home, I began writing guides to teach others about different locations and travel tips.
Brienna's unique travel experience
The idea was to get from Kazakhstan to Hungary without taking any planes. By far, the longest leg of the trip was from Nukus, Uzbekistan to Aktau, Kazakhstan. The desert scenery quickly gets monotonous on this day-long train ride, but the dozen local Uzbeks who were in the berth with me kept the journey interesting each minute of the way. Over dried fish, baked goods, and endless pots of tea, older ladies and young men alike told me stories of their lives in the Karakalpak area of Uzbekistan. In return, I answered questions about my childhood and played my favorite American songs.
