Malta 8-Day Tours and Trips

The trip Malta and Gozo Discovery more than met my expectations! My first time in Malta and I was looking forward to learning about the history, culture and experiencing the friendliness of the people and I was not disappointed. The itinerary is excellent, from ancient civilizations, knights, underground tombs and world war 2 bomb shelters. Local farming, wine and salt pans. The rugged coastline, the spectacular churches and the narrow streets and balconies of the houses. Not to mention the delicious food! The itinerary is packed but the islands are small, so bus journeys are short. All this was made possible by our brilliant guide Althea. Her knowledge, organisation skills and lovely easy going manner is exceptional. One of the best Explore guides if not THE BEST I've met. 10/10.

Very well thought out and comprehensive tour. A must for anyone who loves history. Made extra special by our tour leader Althea who went beyond my expectations by manipulating the itinerary to fit in with the changeable weather and who added a few extra gems on the tour. She is the best tour leader I have ever had.

Great holiday to take in Feb to get away from wet cold UK. Easy walking with a beautiful coastline, hilltop villages and lots of churches to visit. The hotel was amazing, with cottage style rooms in the gardens, delicious food and a great Spa & Pool. The local bus stopped outside and we used the local buses to walk in different parts of the island, so convenient and very good value. We did all the suggested walks, we saw some beautiful views and the route notes were all excellent.

Gozo and Malta beats Venice, Athens and Rome for history, buildings and variety. This is the 5th Explore trip and matches Jordan as the best. The guide, Althiea was excellent in every respect and clearly loves her country.

Athena was an absolutely superb tour leader and had a positive wealth of knowledge to impart, as well as her being decidedly friendly and welcoming with a terrific sense of humour. However, I am used to Explore accommodating its groups in small, locally run hotels, therefore, I was extremely disappointed to have been booked into large conglomerates, particularly the Plaza Regent hotel in Sliema, which was a terrific disappointment. Breakfast was a veritable bun fight. Also, the rooftop swimming pool was only accessible from 9am until 6pm, which was when we were out and about, enjoying our tours. Despite its having greatly changed, due to the horrendously large cruise ships and countless hotels having been built, since my having lived there in the early 60s, none the less, it is still worthwhile visiting both Gozo and Malta. It is also an extremely honest place as one isn’t constantly aware of having to overly protect personal property, whilst out and about, which ensures relaxed explorations, shopping and dining experiences.

The tour was value for money, guides very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing their knowledge. The small group was great too. More opportunity for a swim in the Mediterranean would have made it even better
