Located 15km north of Phnom Penh, Silk Island is famed for its silk weaving villages and authentic and tranquil lifestyle. Silk Islands seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of the capital and allows for a perfect exploration of the real countryside. Board in the morning a private boat at the jetty on Sisowath Quay and enjoy a simple cruise upstream to Silk Island, locally known as Koh Dach. Once on the island, explore the villages by bicycle and engage in conversations with the local community. The island covers about 10 hectare and fruit orchards, paddy fields, vegetable farms and of course silk production centers can be visited. Also wood carving and pottery making is practiced on the island making it one of Cambodia’s most prominent handicraft destinations. Enjoy a picnic lunch taking in the serenity of the island before continuing to explore the villages and discover different home industries. Wooden houses on stilts beautifully rise above the paddy fields and its owners would be happy to sit down with you on their veranda and chat away about daily life. Later in the afternoon cruise back to the capital and remain free for the rest of the evening.
