Langtang is the name of a Himalayan range and is a National Park which lies at the northern border of Nepal. Langtang national park was established in 1976 as the first Himalayan National park of Nepal. It is located within an area of 1710 sq km. The protected area exceeds an altitudinal range of 6,450 m (21,160 ft) and is one of the most popular trekking destinationsin Nepal. It is also very famous for its flora and fauna, and areas where you can see some of the world’s rarest animals such as thesnow leopard, red panda etc. The trail where you walk goes through the valleys and villages of Langtang. It is a very short trek for those who want to get close to the mountainswithin a short period of time.
The langtang trek leads you along the Langtang Khola to the Keynjing Gompa, which is the last village of the valley. There are some day trips around Keynjing Gompa and to visit glaciers, Tserko Ri,Kharka and many more. The Cheese factory of the Keynjing Gompa is very interesting to visit and is aided by the Swiss government. There are lots of chances to see wild animals and birds along the route.
This trip begins from Sybrubesi after a long bus ride from Kathmandu. The trail goes up to the Keynjing Gompa through Langtang village and back down through the same valley to catch a bus back to Kathmandu.
