This is the perfect tour if you’re looking for an active vacation in the heart of Romania. You’ll cycle from village to village, through forests, hills and valleys, experiencing a landscape where time almost stood still.

Plus, cycling in Transylvania you’ll get to visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the fortified churches from Biertan, Viscri and Saschiz, Sighisoara and traditional Saxon villages like Malancrav, Crit and Mesendorf. The tour alternates cycling and walking days, combine adventure with relaxation for you to have the best experience possible.
Day 1 Transfer from Bucharest Guest house

Airport pickup and drive to Viscri where we'll spend the next two nights.

Driving time: around 5-6 hours
We spend the night in Viscri.

Day 2 Cycling Day Guest house

We spend the day biking from Viscri to Crit, Mesendorf and back, visiting the fortified churches along the way and enjoying the Transylvanian landscape.

Activity level: Medium

Day 3 Visiting Sighisoara Guest house

We visit Sighisoara, Europe’s best conserved medieval city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as the medieval fortified church of Biertan, also part of the universal patrimony UNESCO.

Sighisoara was for many centuries an important commercial and strategic point of Central Europe. It is also one of the seven fortified citadels the Transylvanian Saxons built after their settlement in Central Romania starting with the 12th century. Attested at the end of the 13th century under the German name Schespurch, Sighisoara rapidly developed into a powerful economic and commercial center due to its many craftsmen and tradesmen that fortified the settlement with 14 towers and five artillery bastions in the coming centuries against Ottoman invasions.

We spend the night in Sighisoara.

Day 4 Cycling Day Guest house

This is the most intense day of the tour as we’ll bike around 30 km from Sighisoara to Malancrav. The unpaved and gravel trail has an elevation gain of almost 500 meters, but the scenic landscape is more than worth the effort.

We spend the night in Malancrav.

Day 5 Exploring Malancrav Guest house

We spend the day exploring one of the most beautiful villages in Transylvania, attending local workshops and enjoying local home-cooked dishes.

Malancrav is a small village that dates from the early years of the 14th century. Surrounded by the dreamy landscape and green slopes of Transylvania, Malancrav is today the village with the largest Saxon population in the region. The village has one of the most important fortified churches in Transylvania.

We spend the night in Malancrav.

Day 6 Back to Bucharest Guest house

We head back to Bucharest, stopping to visit one of the largest medieval fortresses in Transylvania, Rupea. We have lunch in Brasov, and we take a quick visit of the old city center, including landmarks such as the Black Church or the Council Square. Brasov is one of the most attractive cities in Romania, offerings its visitors a rich mix of history, architecture, culture, urban fun and impressive natural surroundings.

Driving time: around 5-6 hours
We spend the night in Bucharest

Day 7 Departure

Car transfer to Henri Coanda International Airport.
