Awesome trek to ABC
5 - Excellent
  • Nancy Rollason
“I did the Annapurna base camp trek solo as a first trek. I had an excellent experience— communication beforehand was very clear and all my questions answered. Arrangements went smoothly from airport pick up to hotel and transport. I felt safe and well supported as a single woman. I was ill on the first day and both owner and guide were very caring. My guide, Sumba was lovely—he looked after me every step of the way and took care of all the practicalities. Also the porter Kiran. I was very grateful to him for carrying my bag all the way up to base camp! I was able to realise my dream and reach the base camp and it would not have been possible without them.”
A Beautiful Sri Lankan Experience

“We had very high expectations for our trip to Sri Lanka and we were certainly not disappointed! From the commencement of our adventure at Colombo Airport to the final farewell, we were well looked after by the operator provided by Bookmundi. Our tour guide and chaperone, Ruvin, was excellent and his cheerful and accommodating manner ensured that every day went smoothly and was full of interest. Thank you, Ruvin. Our experience: Hotels: All of our hotels were of exceptional quality with very attentive staff. We were ‘half board’ and the food was very tasty with many selections, both local and international. Landscapes and Scenery: Magnificent and diverse. Very dramatic. Mountains: Traveling through the mountains was so enjoyable and the rich fauna kept us engaged all of the time. History: Sri Lankan culture goes way back and the cultural sites are well worth exploring. Sigiriya Rock: Wonderful to see at sunset. Mountain train ride: A must do excursion with lots to see along the way, including tea plantations and agriculture. Kandy: Alluring at sunset. You must visit the temple. Beaches: Along the south and west coast we briefly enjoyed some lovely beaches, but be careful about where to swim. Did I mention the elephants? OMG! The elephant sightings in two reserves were simply spectacular. To see these beautiful creatures in their habitat, interacting with each other under their own terms was so special and we just couldn’t get enough of them. Luckily there were many to see and their bond and affection for each other was just mesmerizing. If for no other reason, Sri Lanka is worth visiting just to get up close to these beautiful animals. Finally, as we said our fond farewell to dear Ruvin, we shed a tear and yet smiled as well knowing full well that we are taking home with us some lifelong, wonderful memories. Sri Lanka ??. Don’t hesitate, just do it! Thanks to everyone who made our experience so special. Tony and Criselda. Florida USA April 2024.”
I wholeheartedly recommend them

“I recently embarked on the 14-day Everest Base Camp trek, and I couldn't have been more impressed with the service. From the initial booking process to the trek itself, every aspect was meticulously handled with care and attention to detail. The person I communicated with during the booking process, was incredibly helpful and responsive. He patiently answered all my questions, both before and after booking, providing me with detailed information that eased any concerns I had as a solo female traveler. His thoroughness made me feel confident and safe about undertaking this adventure. During the trek, my guide proved to be an invaluable asset. Not only was he highly knowledgeable about the region and its challenges, but he also went above and beyond to ensure our group's safety and well-being. His daily debriefings were informative and motivating, and he provided valuable advice on best practices to avoid altitude sickness and other potential risks. I must also commend the porters, for their exceptional service. Always with a smile on their faces, they tirelessly carried our belongings, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the journey. I'm grateful for their contributions to making it memorable. Overall, my experience exceeded all expectations. Their exceptional service and support, coupled with the expertise of their guides and the kindness of their porters, made for an unforgettable trekking experience. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking to explore the majestic Himalayas.”

Asia - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

It can often seem difficult to know where to start when considering holidays in Asia. Don’t let the gigantic size of Asia intimidate you. With enough research and some careful planning, you can see the best that Asia has to offer. Take part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, conquer the Great Wall of China, bask in the glory of the Taj Mahal or wander through the bright lights during a night out in Bangkok.

Travel Highlights

  • Skip the souvenir shops and peruse some of the largest markets in the world. From street food to artisanal goods, Asia’s markets have it all like the Chatuchak market in Bangkok, which is one of the world’s largest weekend markets or the Sukawati art market in Bali. Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo offers some of the freshest sushi you’ll ever taste.
  • Explore your spirituality by practising yoga and meditation in Varanasi along the Ganges river or visit a Buddhist monastery in Tibet.
  • Stroll through the rice terraces of blissful Bali.
  • Explore Northern Thailand, Central Laos or Northern Vietnam on two wheelers with the wind in your hair.
  • Get glitzy in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s bustling bars, sophisticated shopping malls and mesmerising museums.
  • Experience an interesting mix of Catholic and indigenous tradition during the Philippines biggest mardis gras: Ati-Atihan festival in Kalibo which takes place on Shrove Tuesday of the Christian calendar.
  • Embark on one of the longest train journeys in the world: the Trans-Asian Railway through China, Korea, Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Travel Tips

  • Whatever your mode of transport - whether it’s a tuk tuk or a taxi - always ask a local how much it should be beforehand and agree on a price before you take the ride.
  • Manners matter. In Thailand, food is often served with a fork and a spoon. The fork is only used to place food on the spoon and it is often seen as rude to put the fork in your mouth.
  • Always keep toilet paper or tissues with you, and hand sanitizer.
  • Perfect planning is never possible, and having some gaps in your schedule means you can take locals up on their superior suggestions for a day sightseeing.
  • While most countries in Asia use different currencies, having some spare USD will always be helpful. Some accommodations will charge in USD, for example.
  • A bout of stomach flu is normal for first time travellers in Asia. Stick to busy restaurants or food stalls where the locals go and you’ll be fine.
  • Watch what you wear. Most cultures are very accepting of visitors and their unusual get-up. But being respectful of the local culture will go a long way. In India, for example, covering arms and legs will be appreciated, and removing shoes before entering someone’s home will make you a few extra friends.

Tours in Asia - Questions and Answers

  • How to plan an Asia tour?

Asia is a relatively large continent, so there are a wide variety of destinations to explore. Therefore, if you are planning a multi-country trip to Asia, the first thing you need to prepare is the list of countries you are interested in along with your starting and ending points. You would also need to decide on the best time for your trip depending on seasonal variations that affect each country.

After finalizing when and where to travel in Asia, you should make arrangements for all the necessary travel documents. These would include visas, insurances, Covid-19 test reports, vaccine cards, and so on.

  • Which countries should I visit in Asia?

Asia has more than enough destinations to meet every traveler’s needs and desires. If you are into adventure, look no further than the mighty Himalayas. Go on an exhilarating hike to the base camp of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, or head for the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh instead. Thailand, with its blend of dazzling nightlife, rich history, and striking monuments, is the perfect destination not just for those who wish to let their hair down but also for travelers looking forward to being part of a memorable cultural experience.

Go on a tour to Cambodia, home to the monumental Angkor Wat, if you are into off-the-beaten-path destinations, or choose a Japan tour if you wish to discover how traditions and modernity can be seamlessly blended. The Maldives, with its numerous islands and beaches, is sure to provide you with countless opportunities to kick back on sandy stretches, swim in turquoise waters, and go island-hopping, while the rainforests of Malaysia and Indonesia are a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

  • How much does an Asia tour cost? What is the cheapest country to travel to in Asia?

There are several factors that determine the amount of money you will spend during your Asia tour. These include the countries you wish to visit, the length of your trip, the type of tour you have chosen (group, private, luxury and budget) as well as other expenses like insurance, visas, and transportation.

Laos is probably the cheapest destination in Asia, with an average daily expense of USD 23 per person. India is yet another budget-friendly destination in the region when it comes to foreigners. Expect to spend between USD 35 to USD 40 per person, per day if you are a mid-range traveler. The average daily expense in Cambodia is slightly higher, at USD 50 per person. Japan and Singapore, on the other hand, are some of the most expensive destinations on the planet. On average, travelers should expect to shell out USD 130 dollars per person, per day while in these countries.

  • What country in Asia is fluent in English?

English is a widely spoken language in Asia, which means that you would not have much difficulty conversing with locals during your trip. Singapore ranks the highest in terms of its proficiency in the English language. The Philippines comes second, followed by Malaysia. Other countries where you will not face much trouble if you can speak English are South Korea, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

You will find that English is part of life of a section of the population in all these countries. They have road signs in English (along with those in their native languages) as well as English newspapers. Public announcements are often translated into English in these countries, and it is not difficult to come across store banners and product labels written in the language. In addition to all this, locals are also accustomed to tourists, which means they can at least carry out basic conversations in the language.

However, please keep in mind that it is the urban population in the continent that has had the most exposure to the language and is better at communicating in it. The more you travel to the countryside, the fewer English speakers you will meet.

  • How many days is enough for Asia?

A seven-day Asia trip can give you a taste of the general highlights of two countries at most. Go for destinations in the same region, like Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, if you are planning a week-long vacation to save time. A two-week trip gives you the opportunity to carry out an in-depth exploration of three countries. If you want to cast your net further and cover more ground, then a month-long sojourn would be ideal. This duration is enough to cover everything from the futuristic Tokyo to the backwaters of Kerala and the vast, arid landscapes of Kazakhstan.

Ideally, we suggest that you spend around three weeks in the continent if you wish to get under the skin of its cultures and people.
