Cycle backroads through rural villages as we journey from bustling Ho Chi Minh City to the exquisite temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Cycling is one of the very best ways to experience the diverse scenery and rural cultures of Southeast Asia, and continuing our tradition of pioneering cycle trips, this unique itinerary takes us from the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City through traditional rural villages to the iconic temple complex of Angkor Wat. Our comfortable modern bikes, support crew and steady pace mean that you’ll be free to enjoy the stunning scenery along the way, with our backup vehicle available to give tired riders a break at any time. Our journey begins in fast-paced Ho Chi Minh City, which we leave behind for quieter back roads to the Cu Chi Tunnels and on into the Mekong Delta region, the ‘rice bowl of Vietnam’. A vast wetland expanse of floating markets, Khmer pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies and flooded forests. Crossing through to Cambodia by boat, we’ll have time to absorb the palaces, pagodas and French inspired architecture of Phnom Penh before heading north toward Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor. Discover the enchanting ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat by bike and experience stilted village life on the Tonle Sap, or Great Lake.

“We travelled for 12 days by bike in Vietnam and Cambodia - through the Mekong Delta from Saigon and then up to Angkor Wat - with our 13 year old son. We had an amazing time. Some long rides in very hot weather, but our amazing guide managed to gauge things perfectly - stopping for cold sugarcane juice or providing fresh fruit for short breaks. Lots of cultural and historical information, easy access to sites of significance and a great balance between fun and adventure. The accommodation was of a much higher standard than we had expected - the Mekong delta homestay was incredible. Our group of 7 got on really well, which added another element. The cycling was sometimes challenging due to the heat, but we were able to access areas that no tourists would see - cycling along pathways through villages and rice fields rather than being caught in crowds. Nothing better than pushing yourself and then relaxing with fine local food and the occasional Saigon beer! We loved our trip and will start thinking about where next! Great value too.”

“Our bike trip through Vietnam and Cambodia was amazing, wonderful, and intense on every dimension -- sensory, culturally, mentally, physically. I truly felt that I was in another world, forcing me to re-think so many preconceptions and assumptions in the face of the realities before me. And being on a bike allowed us to experience the rural, back country where typical tours never go; a unique and valuable adventure.”

“This trip more than lived up to expectations. The cycling route was flat - thankfully as the weather in February is in the mid 30s centigrade!. The food, the cycling route along small back roads, the friendliness of the the Vietnamese and of course their amazing food helped to make this trip a memorable experience. If you are thinking of a next place to visit then you really should take this trip - it is excellent value for money and the memories will last forever.”

“We booked as a group of 6 friends who made another 6 good friends in the others that made up our group of 12, what fun we had, cycling through the villages of Vietnam and Cambodia, saying hello to the locals on the way who would run out of their houses to wave as we cycled through, some asking for us to take photos of them and the look on their faces when they saw their pictures was priceless. Such friendly people in lovely countries, couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Our guides in both countries were fantastic, with a great knowledge of their own country including the local history. Accommodation throughout the trip was fantastic, varying from basic hotels to more classy hotels to the fantastic homestay with an outside shower! Would thoroughly recommend this trip but make sure you Practise your cycling and fitness levels before you leave as we found it hard going in the heat. Great time had by all, thanks World Expeditions.”
