day 1 - Clarens
Your journey begins in Clarens, the gateway to the Drakensberg Mountains. A scenic lane leads you to the sandstone ramparts of the Maluti-Drakensberg Range. Experience the feeling of traveling back all the way to the age of the dinosaurs. Walk on their tracks and imagine a bygone period.
day 2 - Golden Gate Highlands Park
Our adventure continues at Golden Gate Highlands Park, nestled in the Maluti Mountains. Dramatic sandstone cliffs and a diverse range of plants and wildlife make this a visually stunning part of the North-eastern Free State.
Today, we do a 7km hike in the park, experiencing the true beauty of the place and encountering antelopes at a close range.
day 3 - Summit the Drakensberg
Summit the Drakensberg via a chain ladder and enjoy a magnificent view of the area from the top. This is a strenuous, 14km climb and is not meant for the faint hearted.
day 4 - Royal Natal National Park
Explore Royal Natal National Park. See some of the major natural landmarks in the area, including its Cascades and Mahai waterfalls as well as Fairy Glen. Enjoy a pleasant, 9 km walk with spectacular sceneries along the way.
day 5 - See the Amphitheatre
The focus of today's Tugela Gorge walk is the world-famous Amphitheatre, a stunning and sheer basalt wall about 5km in length and over 1 000km in height, extending southwest from the Sentinel (3,165m) to the Eastern Buttress (3,045 m). This extremely popular walk is 14km long and is the best way to see the Amphitheatre at its absolute best.
