Itinerary

Join us on this four-day, guided tour and make the most of your short stay in Tanzania with a visit to two of its iconic national parks. Serengeti National Park, your first wildlife destination, is famous for its huge concentration of wildlife, especially big cats, as well as for being the stomping ground of the great migration, which sees one and a half million wildebeests, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 gazelles traveling over 1,200 miles in an annual race for water and green grass.

The Ngorongoro Crater, where you will proceed from Serengeti, is the world's largest intact caldera, forming a spectacular bowl spread over 265 square kilometres with sides up to 600m deep. The crater is home to as many as 20,000 to 30,000 wild animals at any given time.

Also included is a stopover at the famous Olduvai Gorge, where the missing puzzles of human evolution were found. Please note that two night's accommodation in Moshi, one night each before Day 1 and on Day 4, is included in the tour price.

day 1 - Pickup from Moshi & transfer to Serengeti

We will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi after breakfast at around 6:30 am and drive you to Serengeti National Park. On arrival, proceed to Serengeti Wildlife Lodge for lunch. Enjoy a game drive in the national park in the afternoon.

The national park covers 12,944 square kilometres of open plains, making it one of the largest in the world. The rocky outcrops dotting the national park, commonly known as moru kopjes, lie in the eastern part of the park and are of scenic beauty. Occasionally, big cats can be seen lazing around them. The park contains vast herds of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and other antelopes.

Dinner and overnight at Kati Kati Campsite in Serengeti or similar.

day 2 - Serengeti full-day game drive

You will spend the whole day today exploring this amazing destination. Proceed for a game drive after breakfast, traveling along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River.

It is possible to see lions, Thomson gazelles, topis, ostriches and cheetahs in this area. The visitor centre close to Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites are well worth a visit after the morning game drive is over.

The nicely designed centre offers some interesting wildlife displays as well as a gift shop that sells information leaflets and maps of the area. The centre also has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased as well as a picnic area and an information trail up and around a nearby kopje.

Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at the centre in the shade of giant acacia trees. Follow the Kopjes Circuit in the afternoon, traveling through an area that usually attracts animals ranging from lions to large cobras.

Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops scattered around the plains. They act as miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water to animals, which makes them particularly good for spotting wildlife during dry seasons.

Dinner and overnight in Seronera at Kati Kati Campsite or similar.

day 3 - Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Wake up early in the morning for a game drive that starts at 6:30 am and goes on till 9:30 am. Head back to the campsite after the game drive is over. Have your breakfast, pack your bags and leave Serengeti for Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

There is a stopover at the Olduvai Gorge, where Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of Nutcracker Man and Handy Man, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution. Lunch will also be served at the gorge as your tour guide tells you about the significance of this place.

Proceed to Ngorongoro, arriving late in the afternoon. Spend the next few hours on the rim of the crater, enjoying the surreal beauty of this landscape.

Dinner and overnight on the crater rim at Simba Campsite or similar.

Accommodation: Camping
Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

day 4 - Ngorongoro Crater – Moshi

Descend from the crater rim to the floor, which is over 600 metres down, to see a variety of wildlife during a half-day safari tour. Supported by a year round water supply and ample fodder, Ngorongoro supports a huge variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeests, zebras, buffalos, elands, warthogs, hippos and giant African elephants.

Another big draw of this conservation area is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot.

Visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner of Ngorongoro. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually been seen here. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater before proceeding for your afternoon game drive, which lasts until 5:30 pm.

Ascend to the crater rim after the game drive is over and proceed to Moshi. We will drop you off at your hotel in the city.
