Floating Village of Kampong Phluk on Tonle Sap Lake

This is a Joint Tour (with other guests) exploring Kompong Phluk. This tour is especially suitable for people who are short on time but still wish to explore Kompong Phluk and experience village life on Tonle Sap lake. Located in the Siem Reap Province of north-central Cambodia, Kampong Phluk is a village that is built on stilts on the lake. Kampong Phluk means "Harbor of the Tusks" in Khmer. We leave Siem Reap at 8:30 am and travel south/east through small and beautiful villages and rice fields towards the great lake. Depending on the time of year and the water levels, we go as far as we can by road and then take the boats. We travel the rest of the way by boat into the main village. The village is home to about 3000 people, who are predominately Khmer fishermen. Depending on the time of year, we will either sail through the main street of the village (when the water is high, the road becomes a river) or walk along it in the low water season. Whichever way we take, it is a great opportunity to see how the rural fishing villagers work, live and go about their daily lives. There are a few schools and many stilted homes towering some 9 meters high to adapt to the changing water levels. It is a lovely and peaceful place to visit anytime of the year. It also gives us a chance to see how a vast majority of Cambodians live as fishermen or farmers and get an insight into their way of life. From there we transfer to our small boats and row through the flooded forest of Kompong Phluk. We then proceed to the great lake itself and see the small floating village. The community lives and works according to the seasonal variance of the great lake as the actual level of the lake can vary by up to 30 meters every season. Return back to Siem Reap. End of the tour.

Enjoy a day tour of Sihanoukville! We'll pick you up from the port or your hotel in Sihanoukville and start our day visiting Tumnuk Rolok Fishing Port. Watch fishermen go about their day to day activities. Then, you will get the chance to admire the Kbal Chhay Waterfall cascading through natural rock formations. Best viewed during the rainy season between July to October, the site is also a popular picnic area for local visitors, especially during weekends. The waterfall originates from different mountain ranges and is a source of clean water to Sihanoukville. We will also visit the Phsar Leu Central Market, where you'll get a glimpse of local daily lifestyle and culture. Explore market sections such as fruits, seafood, clothing, jewellery, Khmer food and various other local goods. On this tour, you'll also see two of the most interesting pagodas in Sihanoukville. Wat Leu (Upper Wat) is located on the hilltop and offers a spectacular sweeping view of the entire town, its surrounding beaches and nearby islands. Marvel at the golden shrine's stone architecture, especially the three-headed white elephants with Buddha statues on top out of a stone wall. The temple houses Buddhist sculptures and contains colorful murals inside. It is an active place of worship, where food and fruits are offered during special days. Wat Krom (Lower Wat) on the other hand, lies on a small hill in Sihanoukhille. Admire its unique Khmer architecture and enjoy panoramic vistas of the ocean. Appreciate Cambodian culture and religion through its vibrant interior murals, old tombs, the procession of monks, the gold reclining Buddha and the gold Buddha statue at the main temple. Get into the heart of rural life in Sihanoukville's little village in the countryside. Immerse yourself in an authentic countryside life by taking in views of traditional houses, and observing people working at the fields and farms. A lovley 10 days on the Cambodian explorer

Nana had been a fantastic tour guide, he has a wealth of knowledge of Cambodia and his English is excellent. He has worked extremely hard to try and give us the best time. Finding excellent bars and locations as well as cooking for us with his family at the sunset BBQ. He always tried to support the local community as well as exposing us to Cambodian tradition.
