Ever dreamed of meeting orangutans in the wild? The "Borneo Orangutan & River Safari Tour" offers a magical three-day adventure deep in the rainforests of central Kalimantan. Cruise aboard a traditional klotok houseboat, waking each morning to the symphony of tropical birds and wildlife. Visit Tanjung Puting National Park to see rehabilitated orangutans, spot rare flora and fauna, and learn about conservation efforts that protect these endangered creatures.

day 1 - Arrival: Pangkalan Bun Airport

Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport, you will be picked up by our local staff and brought to Kumai to board the boat. The boat is a traditional "klotok" wooden river boat, with a roof that forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat team includes the boatman, a cook, and an expert guide.

In the afternoon, we will slowly explore the quiet river by klotok while observing the monkeys along the riverside.

Dinner and overnight on the boat. We have thin but comfortable mattresses and pillows, mosquito nets, and a simple toilet. We also have a kitchen and we serve fine meals and bottled mineral water.

day 2 - Orangutan tour

After breakfast, board the klotok to travel upriver for about 2 hours, before heading up a side creek to Camp Leakey, where older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. En route stop at Pondok Tanguy, the rehabilitation center for new ex-captive orangutans.

At Camp Leakey, you will have the opportunity to trek into the rainforest with your expert guide and the forestry rangers to appreciate the flora as well as perhaps sight wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds.

Lunch is provided on the boat. In the afternoon, visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans given additional food. We will then sail back down the river for overnight on the boat.
