Can't thank World Expeditions enough for our amazing trip to Nepal. The organisation was first class. The care and attentiveness from our guides and crew has left a lasting impression that will stay with me for years to come.

Fantastic

Poon Hill was amazing! However, couldn’t have done it without our guide and porter, Dev and Nima. They made us feel safe, made us notice things we might not have, they were extremely organized and most of all super friendly! Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic trip and in particular would like to call out Juddha Rai, our guide, who was excellent. He was always focussed on our health and well being. Making sure we sanitised before every meal and carefully explaining the next days activities. He was very caring when a couple of the girls were unwell at altitude. And from day 1 he was very cautious and caring with my daughter’s peanut allergy, putting her mind at ease. Food was great. Min was also a standout, hardest worker of them all, leading our group every day on the trails and then serving us food, providing tea and washy washy water every morning. We tipped the team well with a bit extra for Min on the side for his hard work.

Our Annapurna Dhaulagiri trek was one of our best family trips ever. While my husband and I had been higher altitude trekking in Nepal before, we wanted our kids to experience a less physically-demanding trek to introduce them to Himalayan trekking. This trip did not disappoint. The itinerary allowed for spectacular mountain vistas daily, the ecocamps and ecolodges were well located and the organisation of the trip perfect. Aside from the breathtaking scenery though, the most memorable aspect of the trip was our fantastic crew: We could not have asked for a better trek leader than Romy Tamang, who was so very knowledgeable, accommodating and engaging, our Sherpa Bhuvan who maintained a perfect pace and was so entertaining and patient, Bhakta our talented chef who made exceptional and nutritious meals that satisfied our hunger, our kitchen crew Dhuk and Pasang and our porters Kamaan, Subash, Bir and Suman who took such good care of our belongings and us. And because of the awesome experiences they had on this trek with this team, I’m grateful that my kids want to return for future treks in Nepal.

I did the Annapurna Dhaulagiri in Comfort. The scenery was amazing, and we were fortunate to have clear skies every day. Each day there was a slight change in scenery and aspect as we left the stunning rhododendron forests to ascend above the tree line. The trail was challenging at times but achievable…. Make sure you do aerobic fitness prior to going! The trail was on narrow pathways between villages and not too many other groups to contend with. Our guide Beekay was fabulous. She was always there checking on us with a smile and good natured. The food cooked fresh and daily by the chef and kitchen crew was healthy, varied and delicious. The campsites were most comfortable and I preferred to stay in them. Most lodges were okay… I would highly recommend everyone to trek in Nepal with World Expeditions. They have everything covered from safe drinking water, hand washing facilities, hygiene and health. Our crew was fabulous and nothing a problem.

Poonhill Trek - Overview

views of Dhaulagiri, the world’s 7th highest mountain at 8,167 m and Annapurna I the world’s 10th highest mountain at 8,091m, together with many other sky-reaching peaks. This relatively small hill in Himalayan terms provides awe-inspiring mountain views, making all the physical efforts worthwhile. The panoramic view of the Annapurna range from atop Poonhill is unmatched.

Enroute to the Poonhill trail you’ll be presented with sparkling streams, oak and rhododendron forests, traditional Nepalese villages, and many local teashops. Ghandruk, an antique and cultural village, is another point of interest where the culture and tradition of the Gurung ethnic group can be explored. You can see the beautiful Mount Machhapuchhre (meaning fishtail) really close from here. This mountain in the Annapurna range looks particularly striking because of its pointed profile that looks like a fish tail, despite only having an altitude of 6,903m.
