An excellent mixture of walking and sightseeing in a country I knew very little about. Theth / Valbona have spectacular Alpine scenery, very green in June but with snow still on the peaks. The people were really friendly, the food was superb (salads, grilled vegetables, aubergines, lamb, and one of the best steaks I've ever had - in Kosovo - the Pinot noir there was a bargain too), prices cheap....go before more people discover it !

Head deep into the Albanian Alps to hike a collection of the most scenic trails in what has been called ‘Europe’s last true wilderness’. Here, natural beauty dazzles at every turn − Alpine valleys, glacial lakes, soaring peaks – and we have plenty of time for culture too, including village stays and explorations of Tirana, Krujë, Berat, plus the Ottoman town of Pizren in Kosovo. If you’re looking for wild walks, cultural immersion, and plenty of tales to take home, this trip is for you.

day 1Adventure begins in Tirana

Begin your adventure in Tirana, the trendy capital of Albania.
Around 6pm, say përshëndetje (hello) to your tour leader and fellow travellers at our hotel, where we gather as a group for the first time to get to know each other and learn more about the adventures ahead.
After, we get straight into the action with an orientation tour around the centre of Tirana, which provides a fascinating insight into the Ottoman, fascist, and Communist past of the city, and its modern transformation.
The tour takes in Skanderbeg Square, the lively Toptani Street, and, if the group would like to explore a little more, the trendy Blloku district, which was once an exclusive area for Communist Party leaders.
Your tour leader then ensures a big welcome by arranging a group dinner.
