Great experience and thought so by all the family. Sad to learn that there are not so many of these tours, as China, the people, the experiences were wonderful.
This trip promised an opportunity to experience the Great Wall of China in depth and it really didnt disappoint. It was well planned so we experienced the Wall in a range of settings and conditions- some of it highly restored and some treacherously crumbling. The scale of the wall as it snaked across hills in the distance was breathtaking, and being able to enjoy long stretches while meeting barely another soul was extraordinary. Our guide Olly was fabulous. Very knowledgable about Chinese history and culture, he also put an enormous amount of thought and care into making sure we felt well-looked after and prepping us for each stage of the trip. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he really cared about us experiencing a great trip, sourcing delicious food, advising us on what we needed for each day's walking and managing to reschedule everything so we didnt miss out when the first few days were derailed due to bad weather. One note of warning - to describe the walking as moderate is an understatement! And take the Xian extension if you have time. Terracotta Army is stunning and you will meet another great guide Diana.
Ollie our main guide was fantastic. Really knowledgeable, helpful and great guide. We had storms first couple of days which meant some key places were closed but Ollie created a plan to allow us to see what we missed at the end of the tour. Hotels were ok. Some way better than others. Beds always clean and comfortable. A couple had no working TV and shower over floors not preferred. All were very clean. Diane our last guide for Xi’an was also really good. Generally fantastic trip. Thanks
Oliver was an amazing and attentive tour guide. He was able to swap around our itinerary to ensure that we didn't miss out on attractions after string winds caused the Govt to close buildings fir 2 days of our trip. The Great Wall is SO impressive and photos do not do it justice! On this trip you visit parts of the wall where you have it to yourself for most of the day. This was a major highlight!
A great trip. Capable, experienced, attentive guides, Oliver and Diana, for the Great Wall and Xi’an sections respectively. We were looked after very well and all the varying needs of individuals in the group were taken into consideration and accommodated where possible. The sights and scenery were grand and beautiful, the walking felt hard but taken at a steady pace that was doable for all in the group. It didn’t feel too gruelling- there was time to appreciate and take in the views. China felt a very safe place to wander alone at night ( I stayed a few extra days in Xi’an after the guided trip had finished). Delicious food.
Step into history on the "Walk the Great Wall + Xian Extension," a 12-day guided adventure from Beijing to Xian. Tailored for experienced travelers, this cultural and trekking tour leads you across some of the most dramatic and lesser-seen sections of the Great Wall, starting at its meeting point with the sea and winding through the rolling hills of Jinshanling. Marvel at Beijing’s iconic sites, cruise the scenic Panjiakou reservoir, and tour the Eastern Qing Tombs before the journey culminates with Xian’s ancient treasures. The unique draw? The rare opportunity to experience the Great Wall’s diversity, from remote stretches to imperial landmarks, all while soaking up China’s rich history and landscapes.
