day 1Dallas/Fort Worth to Memphis

Welcome to Dallas, where the food portions are as big as the belt buckles. This morning we're headed to melodic Memphis to experience the true American South. Along the way, we'll see Little Rock High school, a historic site of the Civil Rights Movement. A group of nine African American students enrolled here in 1957, but were met from violent protests by segregationists, which resulted in a mothershed legal case to allow white and black students to study in the same schools. Boggles the mind, doesn't it? Feeling reflective, but still excited as can be, we'll swing on into Memphis, you'll get a city orientation of this musical city. We'll hang out in Beale Street, home of blues music, and maybe enjoy aa few Memphis Jams (a cocktail of honeyball, lime and local jams). Feeling right at home, we'll get ready for a day of adventures tomorrow.

Our trip manager, was excellent! I'm no introvert, but there were a few on this trip, and made a notable and effective effort to make them feel included. No further feedback on that front. :) The accommodation in a couple of places, especially towards the end of the trip (Orlando, Miami) was questionable. In Orlando, we arrived to find our room wasn't fully made-up. The milk served at breakfast was also quite sour (expired). In Miami, the carpets were filthy, breakfast was limited, and our room's fixed air conditioner wasn't working (it was replaced with a portable air conditioner that wasn't quite as effective or convenient). A few suggestions for itinerary. It was a shame to pass close to / by multiple NASA sites. Unfortunately, the Little Havana walking tour was cancelled due to lack of Contiki numbers (5 of us). An add-on sporting event, of any kind, would have been a great cultural experience.

This trip is actually part of the LA to Miami tour so when you start in Dallas the rest might already be traveling for two weeks. The trip is a very cool route in the south, lots of music and history of that is your thing. It can be a party trip depending on the people in the group. Overall great fun an some good free time add ons. Some hotels were not so great and kinda filthy.
