Itinerary

Queen Elizabeth National Park stands as Uganda’s crown jewel, teeming with classic big game, over 600 bird species, and ten primate species including chimpanzees. This 2-day tour package immerses travelers in diverse ecosystems—sprawling savannas, sparkling lakes, and lush wetlands—set against the dramatic backdrop of the Ruwenzori Mountains. Cruise along the Kazinga Channel, spotting hippos and elephants, and explore the Ishasha plains where tree-climbing lions await. Beyond wildlife, the park’s rich cultural heritage unfolds through local community encounters, music, and storytelling. Founded in 1952 and renamed to honor Queen Elizabeth II, this trip stands out for its seamless blend of wildlife adventure and vibrant cultural experiences, offering a compact yet unforgettable Ugandan safari.

day 1 - Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Depart from Kampala or Entebbe heading southwest across the country, through Mbarara town, the home to the impressive long-horn Ankole cattle. On the way, see the royal drum makers, stand on the Equator, bargain at the roadside markets.

Descend into the Queen Elizabeth National Park, keeping an eye out for wild game. A short game drive along the Channel track welcomes you into this park as we proceed for check-in at your lodge. The channel track runs parallel with the Kazinga channel as you drive slowly towards the Katunguru gate.

It’s particularly rewarding with warthog, bushbuck, waterbuck and elephants. Depending on the time limits, you may also like to enjoy a safari game drive in the northern sector of the park, the Baboon Cliff famous for its nice scenery, and good views of the shadows of the mountains of the moon – the Rwenzoris.

Afterwards you drive back to your lodge through large expanses of savannah grasslands as you spot some wildlife enroute.

day 2 - Queen Elizabeth National Park, Game Drive to See Lions

We set out early in the morning for a game drive in the northern part of the park on the Kasenyi Track in search of lions, elephants, solitary buffaloes. This is the best time for opportunities of viewing the cats in action owing to the vast population of Uganda Kobs. We have an excellent chance to view just about every animal here at very close range.

Return to the lodge for your breakfast, before heading out for a launch trip along the Kazinga Channel. This gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippo’s huff and spray at a mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others.

We drive back to Kampala after the tour.
