Frozen Lakes & Snowshoeing Bliss! 🌨️

First time snowshoeing and I’m already hooked! ❄️ Huge thanks to our guide Joonas for giving us the confidence to explore the Finnish wilderness – crossing frozen lakes, trekking through snow-laden forests, navigating tiny bridges over fast-flowing rapids, and sinking into snow up to our knees! What an unforgettable adventure! Basecamp Oulanka itself is a true highlight of this trip – a magical setting where you can step right out of your cabin and into an adventure, with hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at your doorstep! The camp itself is so well-equipped and has every comfort. The cabins are cosy and warm. The main lodge has lots of comfy corners to sit and enjoy a hot drink from the complimentary tea and coffee station after a hike or sit by the fire in the evenings. The sauna and hot tub became part of our daily routine after active days out. I was also impressed by the kit that Basecamp provide, you literally could come with the basics and they will give you everything you need for the whole week. I found the snow boots and snowshoes themselves very comfortable!

Fantastic experience. Dog Sled ride was my favorite. The Northern Lights were spectacular on our last night in the Kakslauttanen Resort. Helsinki is a beautiful city with very friendly people. LOVED this trip!

This Collette exploration tour was more than expected. Accommodations were fabulous as were the tour inclusions. The dog sledding was a highlight, but the reindeer sleigh and Santa Claus visit were wonderful, as well. Our guide was wonderful and thoroughly knowledgeable about Finland. I traveled with my daughter and it was a trip of a lifetime. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for the unusual.

Loved meeting Santa and his elf. The sleigh ride was fun except it was -30F and very cold. Helsinki is beautiful with a rich history. I would like to explore that further. The outdoor markets were fun with so many handmade items! Then there was the trill of having crossed the arctic circle into Lapland and meeting the Sami people. Of course the icing on the cake was seeing the aurora borealis. Enjoyed Nordic food, customs and people. The Finnish language is very hard, but everyone we met spoke excellent English. They made us feel welcomed and wanted there. When I told the Elf, Sparkle, one reason I was there was that my father was Finnish so I wanted to see the homeland she hugged me and said "welcome home"

The Reindeer safari, Husky safari, meeting Santa and Sparkle the Elf, Accomodations were excellent in the log cabin and the glass igloo!

Helsinki is a great city. Clean and easy to get around in. In Helsinki you have time to explore, shop, or just relax and enjoy a coffee. When you get to Lapland, it’s another world. With snow Lapland is a winter wonderland. The northern lights over the snow, is a sight to behold. Time to enjoy a dog sleigh ride and a reindeer sleigh ride, is not to be missed. The resort in Lapland is beautiful. The cabins, and egloos are amazing. Having a tour by one of Santa’s elf’s and meeting Santa himself, was so much fun. Also there’s time for doing some things on your own. It’s a trip, if you can do it, is not to be missed.
