Budget Trips to Cambodia

3 reviews on bookmundi

Cambodia is one of Southeast Asia’s best-value destinations, but cheap trips still need smart planning. Food, guesthouses, buses, and tuk-tuks keep daily costs low, while Angkor Passes, private guides, island transfers, and short private tours can quickly raise the total. Bookmundi’s budget Cambodia tours start from around USD 70 per day, with routes covering Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Tonlé Sap, Kampot, and longer Thailand–Cambodia combinations. Browse the tours below to find affordable Cambodia trips that keep costs under control without cutting out temples, riverside towns, floating villages, local markets, or the country’s powerful history.

Budget Travel Tips for Cambodia

Budget separately for Angkor

Angkor is worth the money, but it should not be folded into a normal Cambodia daily budget. The pass, tuk-tuk, guide, sunrise start, meals and extra temple circuits make Siem Reap one of the country’s biggest spending days. Budget travelers should choose between a one-day highlights route and a slower multi-day temple plan. The three-day pass can be better value if temples are the main reason for visiting.

Use tuk-tuks smartly in Siem Reap

A tuk-tuk is often better value than negotiating individual rides all day. For Angkor, day hire can be practical because the complex is large and spread out. Agree on the route before starting: sunrise, small circuit, grand circuit, Banteay Srei, Tonlé Sap and waiting time all change the price. Clear planning saves money and avoids awkward temple-gate bargaining.

Keep the route tight

For five to seven days, focus on Phnom Penh + Siem Reap. Add Kampot, Battambang or Koh Rong only if the trip is eight to ten days or longer. Cambodia is affordable, but rushed routing creates transfer costs and shallow stops. A compact itinerary gives travelers more time for history, temples, food and local life without turning every day into a bus ride.

Use local food and markets

Cambodia rewards simple eating: noodle soups, rice dishes, markets, bakeries, local cafés and street snacks. Food is not usually the budget problem. The leak comes from eating every meal around Pub Street, hotel strips or riverside tourist zones. Mix one or two nicer meals with market breakfasts, local lunches and simple dinners to keep daily costs low.

Choose islands carefully

Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem can be budget-friendly, but ferries, beach bungalows, limited ATMs and higher island food costs change the math. For tight budgets, Kampot and Kep may be easier than island-hopping. If the islands are central to the trip, stay longer in one place instead of bouncing between beaches and paying for repeated transfers.

Use group tours for short trips

Group tours are often better value for solo travelers and first-timers. They can bundle transport, hotels, guide support and route timing without forcing travelers to negotiate every tuk-tuk, bus and temple visit separately.

Cambodia is an amazing country. During the tour we had so many highlights and every day was different. I wanted to see everything and join every optional activity. After all the extra money i had to pay for it was worth it. I would say i needed 500 usd for food, activities and tips. My favorites where the kickbox event, the bamboo train ride, kayaking and the plankton tour. Great thanks also to our CEO Ratha. He did amazing.

First time traveler with G Adventurers but will not be the last. Will be looking at their other trips in the future as we enjoyed the format of this type of travel. The comfort level is at the right level to ensure you still get to experience the culture and food with out it being sanitised. This type of trip attracts travelers with similar levels of expectations and outlooks as ourselves from very diversified backgrounds to make the trip fun and enjoyable. That and the fact you employ great CEOs ensures the success of the trips. We have made lifelong friends from across the world.
