Fantastic trip offering a variety of experiences. Ticks both cultural and nature boxes. If you enjoy scrambling and learning about Mayan history, along with watching wildlife both on land and in the water, this trip is for you. Our guide, Justin, did everything he could to make our experience enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
Excellent trip. I really enjoyed myself. I think a few things or options could enhance it. Options for free day in san Ignacio didn’t mention cave tubing or ATM cave. I think these are worth offering. I found the weather really hot, and an alternative to hike to waterfalls and viewpoint would have been tubing down the river at the exact same location in Cockscomb Park. I would have definitely chosen to do that if offered. It wasn’t offered. That was my least favorite day -although had it been cooler or less humid, maybe it would have been okay? Or had I been cool tubing down a river…. Loved the hotel at Tikal and going to sleep and waking up hearing howler monkeys was amazing. Also really enjoyed Crooked Tree, and snorkeling in Caye Caulker, visiting Tikal, etc. Was a really nice tour.
This is an excellent way to ‘discover’ Belize as the trip is so varied to inc historic sites and ruins to river swims / canoeing & snorkelling as options. There is plenty of wildlife / birds ( monkeys/ turtles/ sharks/ toucans/ spider monkeys etc). The food is excellent and varied.. several in our group were vegetarian & this was no problem. The pace of the tour is good.
A great trip that covers all the major sites. There was a lot of variety - jungle, sea, wildlife, history. Trip leader, Wilfred Garbutt, was fantastic! I would highly recommend this trip!
Willfred was a fantastic guide - knowledgeable, informative, friendly and looked after everyone on the trip. Itinerary was a good mix of temples, scenery, wildlife and coast. Missing the food already!
I thoroughly enjoyed this trip through Southern Mexico, Guatemala and into Belize Undoubtedly the main focus are the amazing archaeological sites, ranging from well before the Mayans up to the Aztecs. The sites were all interesting but quite different. Tikal which is surrounded by jungle was just stunning. In contrast Mexico City buzzes with life with fabulous museums, galleries colonial buildings and street vendors. I particularly enjoyed the much smaller towns of Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las Casas and Flores which were less frantic but full of colour and character. I also thoroughly enjoyed the motor boat trip up the Sumidero Canyon as well as the visits to the indigenous towns. The road trips were long as indicated by the trip notes but necessary in order to cover the distance. Some seats were less comfortable but as the rule is to rotate no one was stuck in one seat for longer than one journey. The whole trip was made even better by our wonderful guide Joshua Flores who was very knowledgeable, well organised and enthusiastic with a great sense of humour. He was always polite and charming to all, whether they were members of the group, hotel staff, drivers or waiters. Being vegetarian in Mexico is not easy but Joshua always made sure there were things I could eat or could be adapted. I also very much appreciated his advice, kindness and awareness of my possible limitations with a steadying hand or quietly asking if I was ok.
