India bike tours combine high adventure with cultural experiences. Climb some of the highest roads in the world in the Himalayas, glide past the pretty paddy fields and dreamy backwaters of Kerala, and ride along the enchanting coast of peninsular India. Spiti to Ladakh is one of the most incredible India bike tours — you’ll pass beautiful lakes, fruit orchards, Buddhist monasteries, grazing Himalayan blue sheep, and high-altitude deserts. For a very different desert vibe, head to Rajasthan, where you can cycle through the lake city of Udaipur and get lost-in-the-sand hamlets, crossing magnificent forts, historical palaces, and medieval havelis (traditional Indian mansions). Start your exploration of India’s long, scenic western coastline from Maharashtra and see beautiful beaches like Palolem and quaint villages like Tarkarli. Meghalaya in northeast India is not on the mainstream biking circuit but offers some of the best bike tours.

“This was a lovely trip, taking in a lot of the sights and sounds of rural India which we could not have discovered for ourselves. We also visited many of southern India,s foremost sights. The cycling was as billed and very enjoyable, mostly on quiet back roads, although the chaotic traffic in the cities should not be underestimated.”
