Joseph Wejuli Ogunyi

I come from a humble background in the village of Busumba, in the countryside of Busia, Uganda. From childhood, I was interested in nature and landscapes, and geography was always my favorite subject. Hence, when I was older I ventured into the tourism industry. Apart from travelling, spending time in nature and finding quiet moments in the jungle, I also love to read. Protecting the natural world that I love is also very important to me and environmental conservation is a priority in my travel planning and execution model. Since 2011, I have been planning safaris for all kinds of travelers to Uganda, Rwanda, DR Congo, Kenya and Tanzania, which has given me in-depth experience planning day by day and case by case, learning from the needs of different clients. I like paying attention to the details of my clients’ needs, which helps me go above and beyond their expectations. In return, I have satisfied customers!

I specialize in discovering the natural world and exploring national parks in Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. This may include, for example, gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park, mountain hiking in Nyiragongo, a boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park, a fishing safari on Lake Victoria or of course game safaris in any of the parks in these countries. Some of the other parks/locations I specialize in include Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in DR Congo. But there are so many more! As mentioned, I also have expertise in planning custom tours depending on each guest's needs and consider this a specialty!

One of the most amazing experiences I have had is gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The park truly is an amazing place, with a misty jungle covering steep slopes. Gorilla trekking is an adventure, the higher you go the more tasking the experience is, but coming face-to-face with the great apes is an amazing memory I will carry with me for a lifetime. Recently, I was tracking one of the gorilla families, the Rushegura family, on the Buhoma side of the park. A gorilla came close to me and I felt something touch my head — and then I realized the gorilla had run away with my hat! This was an amazing experience.

I have been gaining experience in the field since 2011, planning and executing individual and group safaris and holidays. Apart from my experience in the industry, I am a nature-lover and local who was born and raised in the region.
