Although people often associate Holland with museums and canals, the country is more than just that. The windmills and wooden houses of Zaanse Schans hark back to the past, while a riot of colors welcomes visitors in Keukenhof, the famous tulip garden, in the months of April and May. Discover a variety of landscapes in Hoge Veluwe National Park and take in the medieval architecture of Delft’s old town. Then sail down the quiet canals of Amsterdam, taking in the sights and sounds of the city famous for its artistic heritage, before catching your flight home.

How Much Time Should I Spend in Holland

Although it might not sound much, you can cover a lot of ground with a five-day Holland itinerary, especially given the country’s well-developed transport system. Start from The Hague and cover its highlights, including the famous Grote Kerk, a 12th-century Gothic church that was razed and rebuilt in the 16th century. Then continue north to Leiden, one of Holland’s leading centers of culture, before concluding your trip in Amsterdam.

Extend your stay in the country to seven days and you can add more destinations like Marken, considered to be the most beautiful village in the country, as well Keukenhof to your itinerary. However, if you wish to do justice to the country and its heritage, then we suggest that you spend at least ten days in Holland. The duration is enough to browse through the collections of the country’s most famous museums and wander through the cobbled streets of its old towns.

One of the best ways to discover Holland in five days or less is via a port-to-port cruise that takes you from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. Stay in your cabin and take in the attractions along the way as the boat travels from one destination to another. Else, cover the highlights in and around Amsterdam, including the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, before heading for Utrecht, home to attractions like De Haar Castle and Dom Church.

Our five-day Holland tours are a great way to discover the country and its people. Check them out for more details.

Seven days are enough to get under the skin of Holland, one city at a time. Visit both Zaanse Schans and Keukenhof while in Amsterdam and discover Utrecht before heading for Delft, a city with a rich history that is also the birthplace of Jan Vermeer. Spend a day visiting the attractions of this historic city before continuing to Kinderdijk, known for beautiful 18th-century windmills spread out along the River Noord.

Do not forget to indulge in some exquisite waffles and chocolates that the country is famous for before it is time to head home.

Holland in 10 to 14 Days

Zwolle could be yet another destination if you are planning to spend at least ten days in Holland

No corner of the country is out of reach if you are planning to spend between ten days and two weeks in Holland. Gaze at the ornate interior of Haarlem’s Saint Bavo Church and walk down Grote Kerk, the historic market square in the city. Then try the famous cheese of Gouda and visit the Church of Saint John, known for its exquisite stained-glass windows, while there.

Zwolle could be yet another destination in your itinerary if you are planning to spend at least ten days in Holland. Sassenpoort takes you back to the days when the city was surrounded by fortification, while De Weerribben-Wieden National Park, located just outside the city, is home to a variety of wildlife.

Having ticked off the highlights of Holland’s major cities, you can then head for the Rhine Valley, one of the most scenic regions in Europe. See the beautiful Rhine Gorge, sail down the Rhine on a cruise boat, and explore the dark, deep Palatinate Forest.

Indeed, a ten-to-14-day trip to Holland would be the best way to discover the country inside out and learn more about its rich culture and history.
