Review for another Intrepid Travel tour
“India can be a very nice place to visit but definitely not for the faint hearted. It is not a clean place. Everywhere you go you can smell cow shit ( cow dung ) littered all over the roads and streets. Roads are small and narrow with potholes all over the place unrepaired. Traffic are in a state of chaos with no regard to rules or regulations. Weather has been an unbearable hot and smelly affair. Cows are considered sacred and are free to roam in the streets and roads. Very filthy on every streets and roads. Toilets in trains are stinky and of very poor standards. But you have to know....this is India ! Things are not what you expect ! Security is tight on all places we visited. And moving around is not easy with large bags and luggages. Electricity is a problem in India. It keeps cutting off every now and then. Many small to medium hotels and motels are not very well maintained and air conditioners are not working properly at times. A third world country experience. If that is what you are looking for !.”

“This is my first group trip. I am a woman and I travel alone. The tour offered culture and nature. I am interested in arts and crafts, so I saw some relevant museums. The social unity of the group was good. The hotels were fine. The trip is recommended.”

“This was the absolute best trip ever. Ive traveled many times. I have to say this was one of the best experiences and adventures of all. Our skipper, Rita was simply amazing. The best! Wonderful skipper, skilled sailor, knowledgeable, so friendly, helpful, genuinely caring of her boat mates. Shes a dream to sail with! If anyone sails, Id highly recommend requesting her.”

Is this trip right for you:
  • Your leader will take you on orientation walks in each destination, giving you tips on things like supermarkets, places to eat and ATMs and recommendations of fun things to see and do. For more in depth exploration you can head off on your own or with other members of your group, or for the days we are in Kyoto and Tokyo, book one of our excellent Urban Adventures day tours. Public transport to get to various sites is easy and cheap, but do take the cost of transport into account when planning your budget for activities.
  • You will easily surpass your 10,000 steps a day on this trip, in fact most travellers are surprised at how much distance they end up covering just exploring places on foot! Make sure your shoes are comfy and you are fit enough to spend most of each day on your feet.
  • In some destinations you may be staying in a ryokan, which is a Japanese-style inn. It’s a great taste of tradition, however not everyone finds futon mattresses on a tatami mat floor, tiny bathrooms and proximity to other guests as comfortable as more western-style hotels and beds. Read more about ryokans in our Accommodation section of the Essential Trip Information.
  • We are tapping into the booming hostel scene in Japan. In Tokyo and Kyoto, you won't be staying in twin share hotels, but rather they'll be cool hangouts with shared facilities.
  • This trip is specifically for 18-29s, but if you are after an open age trip in the Basix style, check out Japan Express (CJRB) trip.
  • Renovation works on Miyajima's famous floating torii gate started in June 2019. During the renovation works, the torii gate is covered up under a partially transparent scaffolding. Furthermore, a bridge is being built on the left side of the gate (when viewed from the shrine) to aid the renovation works. A date for the completion of the renovation works has not been set yet, but the works are expected to take at least one year.
COVID-19 Safety Measures

This trip incorporates the following COVID-19 measures:

  • This tour has received the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travels stamp, which provides travellers with assurance that COVID-19 health and hygiene global standardised protocols have been adopted.
  • Hygiene and safety guidelines will be followed to ensure your well being is looked after during travels.
  • All travellers 18 years and older will be required to be fully vaccinated. Children aged 17 years and under must present either a negative COVID-19 test, proof of recovery or proof of full vaccination. Any customer who is unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons can apply for an exemption. Customers must provide a medical certificate from a medical professional. These new safety measures apply on all trips, except for tours in Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands.
