Welcome to the ultimate trek in Darjeeling – the Darjeeling Singalila Ridge Trek! Just two hours from the city, the wonderful path begins. Though not a far drive from the city, the trail seems like it is in the middle of nowhere, as you traverse from ridge to ridge. The scenic Singalila Ridge connects the grand Himalaya of Nepal to India. The highlight of the trek is walking this ridge to Sandakphu (3636 meters/11,929 feet), the highest point in West Bengal, where you get jaw-dropping views of the highest peaks on the planet.

Rise from your peaceful slumber at Sandakphu and make a short climb to a viewpoint. From here, see Mount Everest (8848 meters), Kanchenjunga (8586 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), and Makalu (8481 meters) in all their glory. It is truly one of the best, if not the best mountain view in India. Where else can you see 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the world in one sweeping view?

Singalila National Park is one of India’s best trekking destinations, without a doubt. The landscape, wildlife, people, and every other bit of the experience make Singalila unique and lovable. The trail begins from Maneybhanjyang on the outskirts of Singalila National Park. Hike over and around the verdant, forested hills before arriving at the barren meadows of Tumling and Kalapokhri. Then, we make a final ascent to Sandakphu. The mountains give a true sense of perspective and we feel humbled just to be in their presence. Take some moments to just admire them and take some photos, though photos cannot do this view justice.

The splendor does not stop. From Sandakphu to Phalut, the mountains remain with us. In fact, the view from Phalut is nearly as mesmerizing as the day before. The barren open area gives way to an exposed viewpoint of the majestic snow-capped peaks. In Phalut, we stay in a trekker’s hut, face-to-face with the grand Himalayas. From Phalut, we trek through the picturesque scenery of Gorkhey and Timburey before getting a ride back to Darjeeling. In Darjeeling, we take you on an awesome day tour of the city’s cultural attractions and top it off with a delicious dinner.

Every night on the trek (except at Phalut), we stay in teahouses owned by local families. This is one of the most memorable parts of the trek. Learn about the culture and individual families that run the lodges. At the homestay in Timburey, learn how to make momos and other traditional local favorites!

It is possible to do the Darjeeling Singalila Ridge Trek Trek throughout the year. The best times, though, are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). In the springtime, the colorful flowers are blooming. During the fall, the skies are usually clearer. Ashmita Trek and Tours arranges the trek with full management, including transportation, meals, etc. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions!

“This was unforgettable trekking :) We spent couple of days in beautiful mountains, among the nature, with great guide Pemba who took care of us and who made us feel save in the mountains. We saw the most beautiful sunrise, we were above the clouds and saw beautiful views. All trekking was very well organized, if someone didn't have power to climb, there was always possibility to go by car and Pemba was organizing everything so everybody had chance to see and feel the mountains. The boys who helped us with luggage were very nice and helpful, we really enjoyed their company during the trekking.

I really recommend Ashmita Trek & Tours, definitely I will come back to them :)”

“We have just just returned home after doing the amazing 6 day Singalila ridge trek! Wow, what a fantastic experience, we were so lucky with the weather and got to enjoy incredible views of Everest and Kanchengunga. The trek was a lot tougher than I expected but we all survived ok. I have to say the entire Ashmitha team were superb, Mr Binod ( our guide) was a true gentleman and very patient with us, his knowledge of the flora and fauna made the trek more interesting especially for m6 son who has a keen interest in nature. Just want to say thanks to Subash for his attention and responsiveness to all my queries in planning this trip, he was fantastic and I wish him well in the future, his ethos of supporting the families high up in the mountains is commendable.”

“We just finished the Darjeeling Singalila Ridge trek. We had an excellent guide, Pemba, from Ashmita Trek and Tours. He has the widest knowledge about the geography, the plants, everything. He took care of all our needs during the trek. We highly recommend Ashmita Trek and tours and especially the guide Pemba for anyone considering taking a Trek in the Darjeeling, Singalila , Sikkim region.

The trek was amazing, and we had very good views in the morning of the whole Himalaya range including Everest and Lotse in the distance and the relatively nearby Khangchendzonga. On our way we had a chance to meet the local population, see how they live, and learn to make momos...”
Exceeded all my expectations!

“I completed a 6 -day Singalila ridge trek trek with Ashmita Trek and Tours. It was an incredible experience! I am a woman, and I was traveling in India alone. Even though it was the off-season, I was so pleased that Ashmita arranged for me to do this trek with four other women.

The trek took us along the border and into Nepal, where we were able to see Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest at dawn (at 12,000 ft). It was winter (and very cold), but Ashmita arranged for some lovely accommodations along the three nights of our trek. The food was amazing, the trekking was an enjoyable challenge, and the views along the entire trek were absolutely breathtaking.

Binod, our kind and competent guide, was absolutely wonderful, and I'm grateful for him leading us through the wilderness in this magical place!

I absolutely recommend Ashmita trekking to everyone! Their service exceeded all of my expectations, and I'm so grateful for this experience. I can't wait to travel back to the Himalayas for more trekking.”
