  • Highlights: This is the peak holiday season, but most of the crowds only arrive during Christmas and New Year time. Since there is no cloud cover, this is the best time for you to hop on Star Ferries to observe the legendary skyline, or take the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak, the highest point of the island! Dragon’s Back trail is another winning trail for those who want panoramic views of Hong Kong, along with a trail that leads through stunning bamboo groves.

2. January to February — Winter Season / Good Season

This is when to visit Hong Kong if you want the greatest cultural experience - the Chinese New Year! This is supposed to be winter - but the tropical climate ensures that it never gets too cold. All you’ll need is a jacket. Around February, the island will start to get a little foggy, so you might not get the best views if you’re in Hong Kong for trekking.

3. March to May — Spring / Low Season

March to May is not the best time to visit Hong Kong, but it is definitely possible for you to enjoy the city during these months as well. The temperatures soar, and there will be a lot of fog cover, so you might not be able to go for a trek. Rainfall also starts intensifying towards May, so if you want to visit the outlying islands, do so in the beginning of the season.

  • Rainfall: 45 – 158 mm
  • Season: Spring
  • Highlights: You can still get the most out of Hong Kong’s bustling city life during this period. The restaurants will be more accessible, since the crowds would be really low. There are a number of unique festivals happening in the island during these months - including the Hong Kong Arts Festival (Feb – March) and Hong Kong International Film Festival (March – April). Who knows, you might end up spotting some famous faces down here!

4. June to September — Monsoon / Low Season

Avoid visiting Hong Kong during the summer months. The weather in Hong Kong becomes rather hot and humid, and there is a lot of rainfall during this period. September is the typhoon season, so keep an eye on the storm warnings before trying to visit the island during this period. The low season offers incredible discounts on travel and accommodation, but be careful while planning your activities!

The ancient Dragon Boat festival happens in June. There will be boat races and amazing parties thrown around the harbor.
