How many kilometers would we walk each day on the Walking Tour of Orkney Islands, and what are the conditions?
This trip is graded as easy to moderate so the walking is fairly light over good terrain. We walk for 4 days for around 3-4 hours per day. The longest walk is from Stromness to Skara Brae and is 4 to 5 hours. Exact walking distances are as follows: day 2 9km; day 3 8km; day 4 14km; day 5 3km; day 6 10km.
You will be walking on a mix of grassy trails and moorland paths on flat or undulating terrain. The surface can be rough and boggy in places with some steep sections though generally flat. Some walking is along cliff tops but it is easy to keep your distance from the edge.
