Three Wonderful Contrasting Countries - A Must Visit
5 - Excellent
  • Anonymous
“A trip of wonderful contrasts visiting three countries which having only recently gained independence from Russia should on paper be similar. Uzbekistan with its history, culture, beautiful madrassahs and mozques, and security; Kazakhstan with the flat steppe that disappears into the horizon covering 25% of the country (this is probably the size of Germany!) (admittedly we only saw the steppe and of that only a minute part); Kyrgyzstan with its mountains and lakes (75% is mountains). The two overnight and one daytime train journeys really added to the overall interest of the tour. Felt very safe everywhere and had excellent food and guides.”
the delights of uzbekistan
5 - Excellent

“The people of uzbekistan are so open and friendly. The cities and the monuments within them live up to all expectations and there is so much to see. The Yurts are comfortable and spacious, toilet facilities at the camp are good, much better than expected. Camel ride and walk through the desert was a great experience and finishing up with a swim and a picnic beside the lake was a great rounding off of the camp experience. There are long bus journeys on this trip between the towns and some of the roads are quite rough but we felt safe in the hands of our driver. Food is much better than expected and there is more variety than the trip notes seem to indicate. Nobody appeared to get any serious stomach bugs on the trip which is unusual when the weather was so hot. I think this was because our guide advised on good eating places and kept us right. The currency issues are not as difficult as hinted at and are easily managed. Security, including arrival and departure at the airport was robust but not a problem”
An epic adventure!
4 - Very Good

“The trip was amazing! Exploring 4 of the Stan countries was so much fun and different than other trips! We went to heights more than 2500 m above sea level, and others at more than 1500 m. Malika our CEO was so energetic and amazing as well. She's so skilled and was able to encourage us to push through and actively participate throughout the journey. We lived in a variety of stays, but the good thing once we're done with a guesthouse/home stay it's usually followed by a nice hotel stay where we can unwind and do our laundry and prepare for the next trip”

Uzbekistan - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

A trip to Uzbekistan will introduce you to the best treasures of the ancient trading Silk Road. The cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand were all popular sites for traders and have each been delicately restored. These stunning mosques and mosaics are complimented by classic Russian architecture, as the country equally pays homage to its many years under Soviet rule. With few foreign tourists, get ready for an intimate visit through Uzbekistan’s wonders.

Tour Highlights

  • Get a panoramic view of old Khiva from the minaret of the Islam Khodja mosque
  • See the colourful mosaics of the Registan plaza in Samarkand
  • Roam through the 114 rooms of Khan's Palace in Kokand
  • Explore the Ark of Bukhara, an incredible fortress built in the 5th century AD
  • Shop beneath the blue dome of the Chorsu Bazaar

Travel Tips

  • Uzbekistan offers some great transportation links for anyone wanting to see all the country has to offer. Whether you prefer domestic flights, high-speed trains, or city metro-rides, Uzbekistan has it all.
  • While most of Uzbekistan's cuisine is quite flavourless (think boiled vegetables and grey meats), some dishes are worth seeking out. Try Lagman, a lamb soup with thick noodles and spices, and jiz, a stir-fry-like dish of beef, onion and eggplant.
  • Avoid border areas in Uzbekistan, particularly at its shared borders with Afghanistan. These areas are often riddled with landmines and have been known to incur cross-border gunfire.
  • Uzbekistan relies heavily on cash. Be sure to exchange your money before you visit, and carry the local currency (Uzbek Sum) rather than U.S. dollars or other foreign currencies.
  • Uzbekistan is a police state, so be prepared for heavy police presence across the country. Carry copies of your passport and other ID with you at all times, and think twice before taking photos (especially of important buildings). The main benefit of this is a relatively low crime rate.

Uzbekistan has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Uzbekistan before planning your tour.
