Land of the Northern Lights

“This is a lovely tour. I highly recommend . The guide was very competent and informative. The locations we visited were amazing. We had several opportunities to see the Northern Lights. I am already planning my next trip back to Iceland !”
Amazing Experience

  • David M
“My son and I did the Northern Lights Tour. This was a rare chance to spend some time together (hes a busy father and Im a retired 71 year old). We wanted something a little different that we could both enjoy and Midgard offered a tour that seemed to suit, couple with more than a hint of adventure. We were not disappointed. Midgard is a family run business and clearly values the personal touch. Our four days were varied, interesting and fun. The sightseeing was ably organised by our driver and guide, Bjarni, who kept us both informed and entertained (he is a classically trained singer, as well!). His border collie, Krea, added to the enjoyment. The highlights for me were the glacier climb and ice field walk and seeing the northern lights (this was facilitated by one of the owners getting out of bed and driving us to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night to maximise the view). Basecamp is funky, functional and the food is excellent. I cant recommend them more.”
Spectacular Trip!

“Iceland was spectacular and our tour guide and tour group was 5-star. Our 14 day trip to Iceland was a complete success thanks to the knowledge and hard work of both the agency and our incredible guide. Every step of the trip was well planned! The suggested itineraries were sensational and we (family of five) felt that the trip was customized for us and allowed us to get an amazing feel of the country and its people.”

Reykjavik - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Tour Highlights

  • The National Museum will give you a rundown of Icelandic history from settlement in the 9th century to modern day.
  • Reykjavik’s most famous landmark, Hallgrímskirkja church, offers an unmissable view of the city from its tower.
  • Reykjavik Botanical Gardens are a great place to discover thousands of subarctic plants and flowers, as well as a cute cafe.
  • Sparkling on the edge of the harbour, Harpa is Reykjavik’s cultural center and concert hall. Book a show or just take in the beauty of the building and the harbour views.
  • Visit on of the many art galleries and exhibition spaces in Reykjavik to appreciate the art of Iceland.
  • The Viking Maritime Museum is a must for both adults and children.
  • If you want to get outdoors without travelling too far from Reykjavik, Mount Esja is only 20 minutes from the city center.
  • The Blue Lagoon is close to the Keflavik airport and is a fantastic pit stop on your way to or from a visit to Reykjavik.

Travel Tips

  • Reykjavik is expensive. Buy local food from grocery stores and cook your own food where possible. Take advantage of happy hours to save on alcoholic drinks.
  • The bus service Straeto is cheap, reliable and easy to use within Reykjavik. After walking, it’s your best transport option.
  • June to August are the most popular months to take a trip to Reykjavik, but are also more expensive. For budget travellers, May and September are good options.
  • Don’t bother with bottled water - Iceland water is clean to drink.
