Travel Tips
- It is advisable to get your Jordan Pass before your Petra tour so that you can avoid paying the 40 JD arrival visa fee. You cannot claim your visa expenses if you purchase the pass afterward.
- Make sure to have a lot of cash on you. You will need it for anything you buy in Petra, including your admission tickets, tips for the tour guides and animal handlers, and other purchases.
- Avoid being outside for too long or in the heat of the day without a hat, drink, or sunscreen, as Petra can get extremely hot.
- If you are traveling to Petra in April or May, make sure to carry wraparound sunglasses and proper headgear to protect yourself from sandstorms.
- There are no set prices for anything you purchase in Petra, aside from food and beverages in restaurants. Hence, it is possible to get scammed with outrageous prices. Always inquire about the prices before you use any service. If possible, negotiate, as the true price is often significantly lower than what is initially quoted in Petra.
