“I joined the tour a little late due to a flight cancellation but I liked the tour. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and the locations we visited were very interesting. The accommodations were good but each place had its own issues”

Guanacaste - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Tour Highlights

  • Hike or camp in Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park where you can see smoking fumaroles, boiling mud pools and other tell-tale signs of volcanic activity as well as a wealth of animal species.
  • Experience life in the treetops by taking a canopy walk in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. There is also a hair-raising zipline for those in search of an adrenaline rush.
  • Costa Rica has made a name for itself as a top surfing destination for novices and experts alike. Tamarindo Beach and Playa Negra are two of the Guanacaste’s top spots for catching waves.
  • Costa Rica is well known to sport fishing enthusiasts. The popular Coco Beach is one of the cheapest and best place to organise sea fishing trips.
  • Explore some of Costa Rica’s beautiful lesser-known beaches away from the usual spots frequented by the tourist hordes.
  • For scuba enthusiasts, a diving trip to the Catalina islands should not be missed. Marine life that can be spotted there includes white tip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays and manta rays

Travel Tips

  • It is now possible to fly to Liberia, Guanacaste’s capital, direct from many major US airports.
  • High season is from mid-December to April. Temperatures are high but rainfall is at its lowest. During the wet season, May to October, rainfall is likely to compromise your plans.
  • The best time to visit is probably November to mid-December when the weather is not too wet but the peak season crowds have still not arrived.
  • The local currency is the Costa Rican Colon but US dollars are widely accepted, and ATMs are easy to find in most towns.
