Fascinating journey
5 - Excellent
  • Andrew Norman
“This is a fascinating journey through remarkably unspoiled countries. Every day provided a place of great beauty or interest. The small group gelled into a very happy gathering. We were lucky to have such a wonderful tour leader, who contributed so much at every level.”
Highly recommend the tour

  • Liz And David Holland
“We thoroughly enjoyed Mountains and Monasteries. It comprehensively covered everything possible to see and do. The tour leader was outstanding and organisation faultless. We now have a better understanding and appreciation of 3 different cultures, their history and geography and aspects of a shared past. We highly recommend the tour.”
The road less travelled - South Caucasus
5 - Excellent
  • Nancy Webb
“We really didnt know much about this area which has a rich and long history. Everything was beautifully organized with excellent, comfortable hotels, all including breakfast; a number of lunches and a few special dinners too, a range of cultural, historical, geological and archeological places to visit and the occasional day off to relax and do things on our own. We really appreciated that! Excellent and varied local food. The itinerary was well thought out. Although we could have stayed longer and seen more, this 2 week tour hit the highlights. Some of those highlights: Baku Azerbaijan, our first stop, a modern city right on the Caspian Sea, the 3 Dubai-like flame towers with a light show every night, the stunning architecture of the Heydar Aliyev Center. Walking on the beautiful wide lively 100 year old Baku Boulevard along the Caspian, with many locals also enjoying the view, the vendors, the food, the artwork. It was really nice to stay right across the street from it, with a view of the Flame towers too. Riding in Ladas to walk around rare mud volcanoes - wow. Gobustan cave paintings. Georgia: wine tasting in caves, overnight at the luxurious Akhasheni wine resort, Tbilisi, visiting Gergeti Holy Trinity Church high in the Caucasus mountains (stunning!), the rock cut cave town Uplistsikhe, Unesco World Heritage site. Armenia: Views of Mt. Ararat from everywhere, in Yerevan the fabulous Cascades multilevel art gallery going up a steep hill via escalators or walking.”

Azerbaijan - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

A trip to Azerbaijan might not be on your typical travel bucket list, but it certainly should be. Nestled between Armenia and the Caspian Sea, this former Soviet Republic offers more than just a colorful and intense past. While holidaying in Azerbaijan, you will see the medieval walled cities, century old architecture, and an incredible cultural heritage. Between mud volcanoes, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the largest salty lake on the planet, a Silk Road, and the Land of Fire, there’s no way you could possibly get bored in this medieval wonderland.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit the Icheri Sheher (Old City), also known as a “fortress”, located in Azerbaijan’s capital city, Baku.
  • Check out the Caspian Sea before you leave, and get a chance to bathe in the world’s largest salty lake.
  • The Great Silk Road passed through Sheki City, in Azerbaijan. For centuries, merchants marched through here to trade and sell their products. Studies show that Sheki might have been one of the first settlement sites of the Caucasus.
  • Walk through the capital city of Baku, and get an insight look into the culture and heritage of Azerbaijan.

Travel Tips

  • Azerbaijan is known for having 9 ecological climates. So, whatever you’re in the mood for, you can bet that Azerbaijan will have it.
  • Getting around by car could be difficult, as many of Azerbaijan’s roads are unpaved and unregulated. However, buses, minibuses, and taxis connect most cities in Azerbaijan.
  • English is spoken in most touristy places in Azerbaijan. Their official language is Azeri, a close relative to Turkish.
  • Azerbaijan’s currency is the New Azerbaijani Manat, or Yeni Manat. You can exchange manat while in Azerbaijan; however, keep in mind that import and export of their currency is strictly forbidden.
