Tuscany in September
5 - Excellent
  • Anonymous
“I went to a lovely holiday in Tuscany this September. The farmhouse/ BB was lovely and the food was great. The weather on one of the walks was fierce one day: really strong storm ( Fhn)/ hail/ rain.. We had to return to base and explored the area closer to home. The superb knowledge of the local area of our guide Sara allowed us to have great walks on the right side of the mountains for the rest of the week! It is a beautiful place Our Italian taxi driver family spoke English with the broadest Glasgow accent! I went to Lucca on the day off and it is really amazing- the local city tour guide was really good! I will certainly come back to Garfagnana - and will try to learn a bit Italian first!”
CYCLE THROUGH SIENA & CHIANTI

“What a fantastic holiday. The views and towns were amazing, a fantastic guide and challenging cycling. I would seriously recommend this holiday to someone that loves excercise, sightseeing, eating and drinking.”
Tuscany Walking and Wine

“A really enjoyable and varied week in Tuscany. Three lovely walks through forests and vineyards. Stunning hilltop villages and market towns. Excellent wine tastings and winery visits, each a little different, and we certainly drank a lot of local Chianti. Liz, our guide, was efficient, knowledgeable, capable and so friendly. We had plenty of time to explore the cities of Siena and Florence at our own pace, and on our free day most of us opted for a cookery class at a local restaurant. Enormous fun and the lunch we helped produce, was amazing. The family run farmhouse where we stayed was full of character, and they made us so welcome. The evening meals were generous and based on local produce and served with their own estate wines.”

Tuscany - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Travel Highlights

  • Wine lovers should head to Chianti, the birthplace of internationally renowned red wines.
  • Florence’s Galleria degli Uffizi is home to the biggest collection of renaissance art in the world. Even the Palazzo that houses the galleria is a masterpiece.
  • An iconic building of Tuscany is Florence’s Duomo, which took nearly 150 years to build.
  • The infamous Leaning Tower of Pisa needs no explanation, but does need to be witnessed.
  • The beaches of Viareggio are within an hour of Florence, Pisa, Livorno and Lucca.
  • Drive through the Crete Senesi and visit the renaissance city of Pienza.

Travel Tips

  • Driving is a great way to explore Tuscany, but beware of the lax approach to road rules in Italy.
  • The Firenze Card is a 72 hour tourist card for Florence covering attractions, public transport and even lets you skip queues.
  • Get ready to walk in Florence as most of the historic center is off-limits to cars, but the city is smaller than expected and very pedestrian friendly.
  • The markets of Tuscany offer some of the best places to shop. Leather goods and souvenirs are a fraction of the price than what you’ll find in a boutique.
