Tiny, gorgeous, rocky - that’s Malta described in just three words! This small Mediterranean island, especially the resort town of Sliema, is the perfect destination for those looking for some sunshine. Adventure-junkies will love climbing on Gozo island, while more laid-back visitors can enjoy a cultural tour of Valletta with its ancient towers, cathedrals and other historical sites.

Malta Tour Reviews

Honest insights from past guests on our Malta tours

A great chance to spend a week in Malta & Gozo seeing most of what the islands have to offer but avoiding the beaches. Chantelle was an excellent tour leader. Her knowledge of the area is impressive & she really cares that people enjoy the trip. Highly recommended.

I just loved seeing the open air opera theatre in Taromina.. Knowing that it is still being used today for performances is so wonderful. Seating in the seats that are now provided I could just imagine seeing performers on the stage. I would have loved to just stand on the stage. I didn’t get to see it at night but can just imagine it under the stars with a view of Mount Etna. I must also mention the food. It was truly wonderful. Every bite!! Our tour manager Laura was just the best. This was my second tour with Collette and I hope to add at least one or two or who knows how many more. I truly prefer the small group tours. You really get to know your fellow travelers and the experiences are truly remarkable. I like that even if you are traveling alone you have a travel family with you. I do hope that in the future you might add a few more level 2 tours to the small group tours. Right now the level 3 are fine but hoping to be able to travel as long as possible. It took me a while to finally get to Sicily to see where my grandparents were born, but it was worth the wait and I’m so glad I chose Collette for the journey.

We really enjoyed Malta and Sicily trips. All guides at sites visited were v knowledgeable and informative; both tour leaders, Chantelle and Daniele, were enthusiastic and went to great lengths to make our trip the best possible, and we had some interesting and fun fellow travellers. Thanks very much.

We saw many sites, had three boat rides, and went to many places in a short period of time. The coastline of Gozo is spectacular. Our guide, Chantelle, taught us history, ancient and modern. She shared her country with us from a perspective of passion and knowledge. Our group dinners together were fun and we ate at wonderful restaurants at Chantelle's recommendation. I highly recommend this trip. Malta and Gozo are beautiful, deeply historical and varied in many so different ways. Coming from the US I arrived a few days early to get over the jet lag before the tour started. I recommend that as the days were full.

We loved our trip. Our tour manger Dario made Sicily come alive for us. It was a wonderful mixture of historical and cultural moments. We got to see a real slice of life. I enjoyed olive grove, caper farm, salt pans, winery. My husband and I loved winding through towns and always finding an amazing dinner, we were never disappointed. Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea and traveling to mount etna were wonderful.

Overall, a great experience and very good introduction to Malta and Gozo. Having a small group of nine was a plus. Our tour leader Chantelle was outstanding, very experienced, organized, friendly and knowledgeable. She even kept going with only a brief delay after being bitten by a dog during a free time break! She organized an evening outing for some of the group to a religious festival one night on Gozo, which was a great bonus. One suggestion would be to get an hour earlier start on the last day to spend more time in Mdina.

No matter what time of year you plan a holiday to Malta, snorkeling and diving expeditions are always available. The water is usually clear, making Malta a great place to learn to dive for beginners!

Tour Highlights

  • Attend the Valletta Carnival. Plan accordingly because the Valletta Carnival is a giant national costume competition taking place during February every year.
  • Go scuba diving at Sliema or Buġibba; or snorkeling at Anchor Bay to check out the beautiful aquatic wildlife.
  • Walk through the quiet alleys of Mdina at night.
  • Check out the Malta Arts Festival. What better way to get a taste of art in Malta! A variety of artistic mediums are celebrated at the festival, including music, theatre, and dance.

Travel Tips

  • Don't forget sunscreen! If you're planning to hit the beach, remember that Malta is a Mediterranean island!
  • Malta is a relatively safer country however, be wary of pickpockets while visiting tourist areas.
  • 10% tipping at restaurants is the standard norm here.
  • Observe customs, don't criticize them! Malta, like any foreign country, will bring a fair amount of culture shock along with the experience. For example, bar brawls occur frequently, stay safe by not getting involved.
  • Embrace spontaneity. Being a fairly small sized country, it is easy to go around. However, buy a local SIM card if you wish to stay connected throughout your vacation.
  • Try to plan your visit during one of Malta’s many carnivals or festivals! Not only is it a wonderful occasion, but an opportunity to get some insight as to what the locals celebrate and hold dear.
  • There are plenty of art related festivals as well as ones which celebrate Malta’s growing Jazz music scene.
