Slovenia Tour Reviews

5 - Excellent
Based on 26 customer reviews
A clean, green, mountainous country.
5 - Excellent

“Loved the airy, uncrowded mountain walks with profuse meadow flowers and views of rocky pinnacles. The two lakes were also incredibly picturesque and not spoilt. We enjoyed the family-run accommodation, food and wine as well. The day in Ljubljana was enjoyable (despite pouring rain) but I personally enjoyed the small town with its church, old houses, bee-keeping museum, wine merchant and ice cream parlour just as much.”
Slovenia walking

“Relaxing and enjoyable walking in Slovenia although would have preferred only one day of walking on the flat around a lake rather than two. Accommodation good but surprised all lunches taken in restaurants and not as a packed lunch.”
Another excellent Exodus holiday

“Slovenia is a lovely country with lovely people - helpful and friendly. I can but pass on the advice given to me which was go before it gets too popular. An important factor in making the holiday is the Leaders and the Group. In both instances they were excellent. Walks are well planned and whilst some previous posts have commented re lunching in restaurants rather than a packed lunch, I preferred the former, which, with one exception, are not restaurants but mountain lodges. All helps the local economy. Weather can be changeable but aside from our Lake Bled day, we enjoyed good weather. When it rains, it rains.”

Slovenia - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Rich in water, and in forested land, Slovenia offers a picturesque landscape that looks like it could have come right out of a story book, complete with castles, cottages, and cloud crowned mountain peaks. Slovenia is a young country, which at one time has been a part of the Roman and Holy Roman Empires.

Tour Highlights

  • Explore one of the many different castles in this beautiful country, some of which have been converted to hotels that you can actually spend the night in.
  • Visit one of the many museums, of which there are over 200, starting with the National Museum of Slovenia, or perhaps the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana.
  • Visit the Savica Falls at Lake Bohinj, or take in the spectacle of one of the other 300 waterfalls that adorn this beautiful country.
  • Go hiking on The Sub-Alpine Trail for a first-and view of the beauty of this mountainous wooded realm. If you plan to hike the whole thing you will need to save up your vacation time, it is 470 km long!
  • Take a moment for meditative prayer at a 900-year-old monastery at Sticna.
  • Strap on your skis for some Alpine skiing, the slopes here are some of the best values you can find.
  • No trip is complete without a visit to Bled lake and the beautiful Castle of the same name.

Travel Tips

  • If you plan to do any driving don’t touch that phone. It is illegal to use your cell phone while driving; additionally, no right turn on red lights!
  • Dress warmly, the climate is cool.
  • Keep your receipts, they can be requested by inspectors when you’re leaving a store, and if you don’t have it you can be fined.
  • Pirated goods may seem like a good deal, but if you have to leave them at customs when you leave the country you will be sadly disappointed. Be sure to avoid counterfeited goods.
  • Don’t leave valuables in plain sight when you leave your car. Automobile break-ins are fairly common.
